AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME
AMENDING SECTION 13.36.042 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE TO ESTABLISH
FOUR-HOUR PARKING ZONES ON GILBRETH ROAD
The CITY COUNCIL of the CITY OF BURLINGAME does hereby ordain as
follows:
Section 1. Factual Background and Findings.
The City has received complaints from businesses along Gilbreth Road that the
current 4 -hour on -street parking limit is insufficient for the parking needs of employees
and businesses. This parking limit was originally implemented to address the problem of
long-term, large truck storage on Gilbreth Road. The implementation of 4 -hour parking
partially alleviated this problem; however, this action also effectively removed a
significant portion of the long-term parking availability from the businesses and
employees on Gilbreth Road.
Recently, the Traffic Safety and Parking Commission (TSPC) re-examined the
parking restrictions along Gilbreth Road to determine if new changes could be made to
allow for longer parking time limits for employees and businesses, while still prohibiting
the parking of large trucks.
After discussion and consideration, both staff and the TSPC agreed upon a
possible solution which would provide parking for businesses and prevent large truck
parking on Gilbreth Road. The City would eliminate the existing 4 -hour parking
restriction on the east side of Gilbreth Road and replace it with vehicle height restriction
signage along that side of the street. Staff believes that this action 1) would allow
businesses the ability to park on the side closest to their establishments for more than the
current 4 -hour limit; 2) would prevent large trucks from parking on the east side of the
street and 3) would improve the sight visibility for cars exiting from the business
driveways. The current overnight parking prohibition (10PM to 6AM) on Gilbreth Road
would remain unchanged.
Section 2. Sub -Section (d) of Section 13.36.042 of the Burlingame Municipal Code
is hereby repealed.
Section 3. Anew Sub -Section (d) is hereby added to Section 13.36.042 to read as
follows:
"(d) West side of Gilbreth Road, between Cowan Road and Mahler Road;
and"
Section 4. The City Traffic Engineer is directed to install parking signs and to take
all other necessary actions to implement this parking restriction change on
Gilbreth Road.
Section 5. The City Clerk is directed to publish this ordinance in the manner required
by law.
