HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1181ORDINANCE NO. 1181 ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING POSITION AND DUTIES OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Burlingame does ORDAIN as follows: Section 1. Chapter 3.20 is hereby amended to establish the duties of the Director of Public Works as follows: "3.20.010 Powers and duties. The Director of Public 9dorks shall attend to and carry out all duties appertaining to general municipal engineering, and shall attend to all special assessment proceedings and carry on in all work generally performed by a municipal engineer. He shall also be the supervisor and director of all departments of public works in the City, specified aS follows: (a) He shall have supervision and direction of all work relating to grading, paving, cleaning, lighting and repairing of streets and sidewalks; the building and repairing of streets and sidewalks; the building and repairing of sewer and storm drains; the disposal of sewage, garbage and rubbish. He shall also act as the superintendent of streets of the City. (b) Fie shall have supervision and control of all work in connection with and relating to the Water Department of the City. (c) The office and duties of the Building Inspector as defined in this code shall be under the supervision and direction of the Director of Public Works. 5/9/80 5/21/80 1 (d) He shall be the custodian of all city maps, plans, profiles, field notes and other city records appertaining to his office with the indices thereof, and shall turn them over to his successor who shall give a duplicate receipt therefor, one of which shall be filed with the City C1er-k. All work done or made by the Director of Public Works in connection with the duties of his office, in - eluding maps, plans and memoranda, shall be the property of the City.°' Section 2. Section 3.52.010(a) of said Code is hereby amended to add the City Engineer to the unclassified service, to read as follows: "(a) Unclassified Service. The unclassified service shall include the following officers and positions: by law. (1) All elective officers; (2) City Manager and one private secretary to the City manager-; (3) Positions on appointive boards, commissions or committees; (4-1) The head of each department and one private secretary to the head of a department, where applicable; (4-2) Assistant department heads; (4-3) Chief fire inspector; (4-4) Chief building inspector; (4-5) City engineer; ,. .. ., iv Section 3.
