HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1193QRDUTANCE NO, 1193 A'd ORDINI��TGE TO i2E0UIRE, 4?gnKE DETECTORS Ind ALL HOTELS BY JANUARY 1 1932 The CITY C0U_7CIL of the City of Burlingame does 0RD.4IN as .follows: Section 1., Section 18,08.186 of the Bur_l.ingame T-lunicipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "18,03.186 Section 1310(x) amended _ fire warning and fire extinguisher system. Section 1310(x) is amended to read as folloa7s: "(1) ?dEW UNITS. Every dwelling unit within an apartment house and every guest room in a hotel used for sleeping purposes shall be provided with smoke detectors conforming to U.B.C. Standard No. 43-6. In dwelling units, detectors shall be mounted on the ceiling or wall at a point centrally located in the corridor or area giving access to rooms used for sleeping burposes. In an efficiency dwelling unit, hotel sleeping room and in hotel suites, the detector shall be centrally located on the ceiling of the main room or hotel sleeping room. Where sleeping rooms are on an upper level, the detector shall be placed at the center of the ceiling, directly above the stairway. All detectors shall be located within 12 inches of the ceiling. Care shall be exercised to insure that the installation will not interfere with the operating characteristics of the detectors. The detector alarm, when actuated, shall be sufficiently audible to be heard through closed sleeping room doors. 1/7.5/81 1 (2) EXISTIMi UNITS, Smoke detectors shall be installed in all dwelling units within apartment 'houses and all guest rooms in hotels upon the parcel whenever:. (a) ALTERATIO"wS, REPAIS OR ADDITIO'SS. Interior or exterior alterations repairs or additions are made to any dwelling units or guest rooms in excess of $500 in any 12 -month period, Such installations shall be mounted in a manner similar to new units. (b) SALE OR TRANSFER OF TITLE; Any apartment house or hotel is to be transferred to, or vested in any other person or persons, or entity, The installation shall be the joint responsibility of the transferor and trans- feree. The use of the transferred premises without compliance herewith shall constitute a public nuisance, (c) COMPLIANCE: W hether or not alterations, repairs, additions, sale or transfer of title has taken place, every apartment house shall conform to the requirements for new units by January 1, 1983, and every hotel shall conform to such requirements by January 1, 1982."' Section 2, This ordinance shall be published as required by lava. I., EVELYN H.
