William Farmer, High chool Board developed the A general discussion by all parties present, followed the presentation of the master plan by Chairman Jim Mitchell of the Burlingame Planning Commission. The representatives of the Elementary School L istric t brough- up the following objections: (1) The extens "on of 4uesada Road from Ray Park to Junipero Serra highway would bring too much traffic past the present Elementary School site and that such access to the Junipero Serra highway should be eliminated. Also, that the school site should be moved farther to the North and* the traffic problem from Ray Park very carefully studied. (2) To adequately plan for school sites the estimated number of resident! in the area was needed. Report continuation Mr. Reynolds brought out the fact that, from the High School stand- point, the parkway paralleling the proposed high school site near Millbrae, should: be extended over to Millbrae Avenue and used to separate the high school from any recreational area. It was agreed, however, that the use of recreational facilities adjacent to schools serves a double purpose and would utilize the land to the best possible extent. The recreation department also agreed that the use of recreation facilities near school operation was extremely beneficial. It was pointed out by both members of both school boards that the proximity of elementary schools to high schools, where lying on adjacent sites, was not too beneficial to the elementary school students, and that separate sites whould be maintained at separate locations. Mr. George ihite of the Llementary School District, brought out the point of the present extension of the Millbrae school district and also the extent to which the Burlingame -Elementary School District now extended into the Mills Estate area, and advised that at some future time there would have to be some decision as to the extent of both of these school districts. Councilman Simonds, supported by Planning Commissioner Harris, stated that in his opinion, the two vital points to be considered were: (1) The recreational area of 50 acres west of the proposed extension of the Junipero Serra highway; (2) The traffic outlets to the Junipero Serra Highway from Both Burlingame and Millbrae and the need of parking facilities adjacent to either recreational or school sites. Mr. Reynolds stated that a meeting of this nature was highly beneficial, and asked that all interested parties be consulted in the future for the integrated planning of a school, recreational and city development program to be maintained for this area. It was moved by Mr. Hecht, seconded by 'Irs. Phelan, and unanimously passed, that the members in attendance at this meeting express the general approval of the county plan as presented, with the hope that the thoughts extended in this meeting would be beneficial to the County Planners. Councilman Simonds expressed appreciation to the City of Bu,-ling;ame for the County Planning Commission action in presenting this plan to foresee the problems of both Millbrae and Burlingame in the future with respect to this property.
