CITY PLANNING COI&ISSION
Burlingame, California
Regular Meeting
May 31, 1951
Others Present
City Engineer Geo. J. Marr
City Building Inspector Watson
Mrs. Dorothy M. Dirr, 20 Anita Road, Burlingame, presented a letter, May 31,
1951, requesting permission to pay city license and operate a catering business from
her home at the above address. She explained that no cooking is done on the premises.
After consideration, it was concluded that this communication should be tabled to give
opportunity to look into the subject.
H. Deuprey, General Contractor, 2601 El Camino Real, Redwood City, appeared
and submitted plans for proposed construction of a six -unit apartment house on Lot 7,
Block 18, Easton Addition No. 2. After study of the plans, tentative approval was given
subject to the revision of the plans relative to setback lines and garage area, the re-
vised plans to be submitted to the building inspector for approval if in order.
A letter of May 28, 1951, and plot plan were received from Ross W. Robison,
Architect, 3130 Kingsland Avenue, Oakland, requesting reduced setback line on Lot 7,
Block 7, Burlingame Terrace, Fairfield Road, near El Camino Real. The letter set forth
the following reasons for the request::
1. The setback shown will be an average from the existing buildings
on either side, and it will still maintain parallel building lines.
2. If the normal required 15'-setback is maintained, the front build-
ing lines would have to be parallel to the street, rather than the
adjacent buildings.
3. The 15' setback would require a reduction in depth of the carports
to 14' and even then the ingress and egress to numbers 1, 2, and 3
will be very difficult.
4. The 15' setback will make the existing garage appear very prominent
in the setback areas.
5. The proposed setback should not make any difference to the owner of
the existing house, because their floor line is probably higher than
the proposed carports.
After discussion and consideration, it was the consensus of the commissioners that the
established setback lines should be observed; that is, 20 feet on E1 Camino Real, 15
feet on Fairfield Road, and 3 feet on the lot sidelines. The City Engineer was requested
to investigate the storm -drain situation with respect to this lot.
