RE: 1432 DRAKE AVENUE - REQUEST FOR REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
Increase in Lot Coverage Beyond Maximum Permitted for Wheelchair Lift
Mr. Brooks:
The Community Development Department — Planning Division has concluded its review of your request far
Reasonable Accommodation to permit the installation of a wheelchair lift on your property located at 1432 Drake
Avenue, Burlingame. Your request is hereby approved pursuant to the provisions of the Burlingame Municipal
Code, Chapter 25.66 (Requests for Reasonable Accommodation for Accessibility), and with the provisions of the
Federal Fair Housing Act and the California Fair Employment Act (the Acts), based upon the following findings:
■ You are the owner of the residence located at 1432 Drake Avenue. In your application for
reasonable accommodation you state that your limited mobility necessitates the installation of a
wheelchair lift to permit you to enter and exit your residence in a safe manner. Your statements
are supported by written documentation, dated January 16, 2014, submitted by your personal
physician, Dr. Alexander Lakowsky who states, in part, that the wheelchair lift is required due to
your limited physical mobility in order to provide a means of safely entering and exiting your
home. Your physician's confirmation of the need for reasonable accommodation is consistent
with the provisions of the Acts.
■ Approval of your request for reasonable accommodation is warranted to permit your continued
occupancy of your single-family residence in a manner the protects your health and safety,
consistent provisions of the Acts.
■ The requested reasonable accommodation does not impose undue financial or administrative
burden on the community and does not require a fundamental alteration to the City's zoning
requirements, development standards, policies or procedures.
■ Due to its limited scale, the reasonable accommodation does not adversely impact surrounding
properties or uses.
■ Absent significant physical alteration of your residence, there are no reasonable alternatives that
would provide an equivalent level of benefit without requiring a modification or exception to the
City's applicable rules, standards and practices.
Approval of the reasonable accommodation granted herein is effective as of the date of this correspondence.
