Present Mitchell Brown Harris Stivers Absent Macomber Henderson CITY PL"NINGCOMMISSION Burlingame, California Regular Meeting July 28, 1949 8p.m. Others Present Councilman Simonds City Engineer Fitch Chairman Mitchell read a letter from the San Mateo County Planning Commission. July 22 to which was attached a letter dated July 1 from the Burlingame Elementary Schools indicating that it is the intention of the Board of Trustees of the Burlingame Elementary School District to acquire from 10 to 15 acres of the property of the Mills Estate, Inc. adjacent to the Ray Park Subdivision, and eontinguous to the present Burlingame Elementary School District limit, as a future school site, with word that more specific information will be given as to location at a later date. No.action. Mr. Etienne appeared and presented preliminary plans for the development of approxi- mately 12.34 acres in the Broadway industrial area. After discussion it was unanimously agreed that tentative approval is granted subject to the developer meeting the requirements of the City Engineer relative to streets, utilities, and the posting of a performance bond in an amount satisfactory to the City Engineer. Councilman Simonds was present and informed the City Planning Commission that a street problem has developed in Burlingame Manor, the solution to which is difficult to find, and that the matter is having the attention of the City Engineer and the Council. Chairman Mitchell stated that he had received an informal inquiry relative to a pro- posed automotive building at the Northeast corner of Highland and Peninsula Avenues. After discussion, the members of the Commission indicated that they would not look with approval upon the rezoning of the lot for such a purpose and Mr. Mitchell stated that he doubted if the in- quirer would file a formal petition. Chairman Mitchell asked Councilman Simonds regarding the contemplated subdivision of the Mills Estate, and in the discussion which ensued, Mr. Simonds stated that he understood the plans have not yet finally been determined and there is nothing for the Planning Commission to do on the subject now. The Chairman asked City Engineer Fitch regarding the status of the Chapin Avenue street widening project, and the City Engineer reported that the situation is that his office is preparing plans for submission to the City Council and a project of this character unavoida- bly requires considerable time to work out the details. He explained that these details in- clude not only such features as the street section and profile, but also involve the location of mains and sewers, the type of curbs, and possibility of installing a center dividing strip which as yet has not the approval of the Fire Department, and the type of street lighting and the possibility of underground wiring and so forth. The Planning Commission drew attention to the highway area around the Broadway over- pass and asked the City Engineer to ascertain what are the plans of the Highway Department relative to the planting program. Building Inspector Watson reported he had no plans.to present. The Meeting adjourned 9:55 P.m. , D. A. Stivers, Secretary.
