Request: Sign Exception to the number of signs on the primary frontage at 3 California Drive,
zoned G2, Subarea D, Auto Row District (C.S.22.16.050).

commercial, industrial or institutional facilities, including but not limited to (a) on-premise signs.
Summ�ry: The applicant, Dewayne Metcalf, representing Zimmerman Sign Company and
Putnam Volvo, proposes to add one 20.3 SF internally illuminated wall sign to the front of the
Putnam Volvo car dealership to identify the Putnam dealership. The applicant requests an
exception from the sign ordinance to permit an increase in the number of signs on the primary
frontage to five, where a maximum of four signs are permitted for parcels with frontage greater
than two hundred feet within the Auto-Row zoning district (G2, Subarea D) (C. S. 22.16.050).
The area of signage on the primary frontage would increase to 200 SF where up to 300 SF is
allowed (C. S. 22.16.040). The copy, size and location of the proposed and existing signs are
demonstrated in the following tables:

* A sign exception is required for the new sign (fifth sign) on the primary frontage where a

Staff Comments: This application was reviewed by the Fire Marshal, Chief Building Official,
and City Engineer. There were no staff comments regarding the application.
