Present Coles Brown Mitchell Macomber Stivers Absent Shattuck 4' CITY PLANNING COiri 13SI01 Special fleeting Others Present Park Superintendent Anderson This was a specially scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission for the pur- pose of discussing with Park Superintendent Anderson tree planting in the City of Burlingame. Mr.:Ariderson attended this meeting and reported on the studies he has made on this subject. He stated at the meeting that there are now approximately 8,500 trees planted.in the street parking areas of the city, comprising about 100 varieties and that there resains 2,2OO,v4cant spaces. In general Mr. Anderson said that he believed it un- wise to plant any more trees of the acacia variety, particularly the black acacia, and that.mew planting should be made from varieties which have been found from experience to be best adapted to the particular enviro>ament. Also, he observed that there are advan- tages in uniform Planting of different streets which improves appearance and facilitates maintananoo work. Wiring the meeting Mr. Anderson explained the advantages and disadvan- tages of the different varieties of trees skich stay be planted in this area and he will submit a list of recomended trees for the information of the Planning Commission. In conclusion it was the consensus of the members of the Planning Commissions The City of Burlingame, being primarily a residential area, the Planning Commission recommends to the City Council the continuance of the tree planting program under the supervision of the Park Superintendent who should be authorized to make a selection of the type of trees to be planted. The Planning Commission complimented Mr. Anderson on the thorough study he haa :jade and the competent manner in which he has conducted the work of the Park Department.
