September 6, 1946 A Special Meeting of the Planning Commission was held in the City Hall 7:45 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 1946. The following commissioners were present: Coles Brown Shattuck Stivers Others present: City Attorney Karmel Building Inspector Watson City Engineer Fitch Chairman Coles presiding. The Secretary read a communication August 10, 1946 from Robert G. Herda addressed to the City Council of the City of Burlingame, which had been referred to the -City Planning Commission. This communication bore also the signatures of fourteen other residents in the vicinity of Balboa and Sherman Avenues, as follows: "The City Council of the City of Burlingame, Burlingame, California. Gentlemen: "I, Robert G. Herda, presently own and occupy, and for the pasttwenty-six years have -owned and occupied, the dwelling house property located at 1268 Balboa Avenue, in the -City of Burlingame. "The properly on the next street easterly, namely, El Camino Real, and adjoining the easterly end of my lot, is occupied by an apartment house. In the rear portion of this property there is a garage structure located about 20 inches easterly from my easterly lot line. "Am informed that the owner of aforementioned apartment house property proposes to erect above the said garage structure, and on land contiguous thereto, an. additional apartment house consisting of two units. The construction and occupancy of this additional apartment house so -close to the rear of my land will obviously be disadvantageous to my property holding, deprive my family and me of the privacy we have enjoyed for years past, and I can perceive in many ways lead to annoyance of ourselves and others, to the extent that it might be classed as a nuisance. "I, therefore, respectfully submit to the Council my opposition to and a vigorous protest against the erection of the additional apartment house on the E1 Camino Real property above mentioned, and. petition the Council that permit for it4 construction be not granted. Several of my neighbors, whose names and addresses are below subscribed and who are also interested in the continued comfort of their homes, object to erection of the said additional apartment house, and join me in this petition.
