September 27, 1946 The Regular Meeting of the Planning Commission was held in the City Hall at 7:45 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 1946. The following commissioners were present: Coles Brown Mitchell Macomber Shattuck Stivers Others present: City Attorney Karmel City Engineer Fitch Building Inspector Watson Chairman Coles presiding. The Secretary read the minutes of the Special Meeting; September 5, 1946, which were approved. A communication was read from the Bekins Van & Storage Co. seeking approval to construct a sheet metal storage building in the Broadway industrial area. After discus- sion with Mr. Howard Imus, representative of the Bekins Van & Storage Co.,'the plan was referred back to him for further architectural treatment to be submitted at a later meet- ing together with a plat to show the location of the proposed structure. The above application again brought up the subject of the amendment to the Building Code to clarify the section relating to the use of sheet metal as a construction material. The following resolution was adopted: It is requested that the City Attorney draft an ordinance regard- ing sheet metal buildings and refer the same to the Planning Commission which intends to recommend to the City Council the adoption of an amendment to Section. 2205A of the Ordinance Code. Commissioner Mitchell requested that the Secretary follow up the communication which was sent to the City Council June 13, 1946 relative to proposed sideline setbacks for apartment buildings. The Secretary was also instructed to communicate with the City Council calling °f attention to the existence of advertising signs on. El Camino Real and awnings on other streets which are believed to be in violation of the city ordinance with particular reference to a conspicuous awning with a large sign in front of a dancing studio, and a real estate sign on El Camino,, City Attorney Karmel spoke of the need to prepare a zoning plan for the new subdivision, Burlingame Manor, and Commissioner Mitchell referred to the same subject with respect to the Mills Estate area recently annexed to the city. City Engineer Fitch re- ported that he believes the Mills Estate will submit a plan at an early date. City Engineer Fitch also reported that investigation has been made relative to the waterway which was mentioned in the minutes of the hearing September 5, 1946 and it was found that the waterway is on private property.
