December 27, 1946 The Regular Meeting of the Planning Commission vias held in,the City Hall at 7:45 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 1946. The following commissioners were present: Coles Brown Mitchell Macomber Shattuck Stivers Others present: Mayor Harris Councilman Hunt City Engineer Fitch Building Inspector Watson City Clerk White Chairman Coles presiding. Commissioner Mitchell reported on a study of a park program, the final submis- sion of which is pending further technical advice. A delegation of students representing the Community Recreation Center Committee Burlingame High School, spoke in favor of the purchase of a site -and the construction of a building for recreational purposes. The question of signs on the highway was again brought up and Building Inspec- tor Watson said that he will contact Conway & Culligan and Lang Realty Company regarding its signs and that the dancing school have agreed to remove theirs. The petition to change the_fire zone on IUiyrtle Lane was brought up and this was followed by a discussion as to whether or not California. Drive should not receive the same consideration. The matter was referred to the City Engineer and the Chief of the Fire Department for a technical report. A map was submitted for the resubdivision of two lots in Burlingame Manor in or- der better to provide public utility easements. This was unanimously approved. Regarding the protests which have been received relating to the noise from the planing mill in the Broadway industrial area, Building Inspector Watson reported that the mill -is going to be moved. He stated that Foley Boettcher Lumber Company have ac- quired a site located in the Southerly portion of San Mateo which is now being graded and as soon as they can do so, the plant will be moved. Building Inspector Watson presented plans for proposed sheet metal building 100 x 100 in Broadway Industrial Area. C. H. Bessett Building Company, Rollins Road. Commissioner Shattuck moved that permit be granted at such time as new ordinance becomes effective. Building Inspector Matson presented plans for six apartments Lot 7, Block 17, Burlingame Grove, E1 Camino Real North of Broadway, Approved. MINUTES - Regular Meeting L December 27, 1946 Page 2 Commissioner Mitchell inquired if any information has been received as to the duration of the honor roll structure in front of the postoffice. This was referred to Mayor Harris and Mr. Anderson of the American Legion Burlingame Post to ascertain their plans. Chairman Coles read a letter December 26 from City Engineer Fitch relative to the Ray Park recreational area which was accompanied by a detailed topographical map of Ray Park. Mr. Dillon of the Recreation Commission requested that the necessary work be done to put the baseball field in useable condition as soon as possible. Chairman Coles asked City Engineer Fitch how much this would cost and Mr. Fitch said that his ap- proximate estimate is $3,000 to grade the surface and make the necessary change in the sprinkler system. It was agreed that it is desirable to properly maintain this recrea- tional area and it was decided that a joint meeting should be held sometime between January 10 and 15 between the Recreation Commission and the Planning Commission, with members of the School Board if possible; also if feasible to have a technical consultant present.
