June 29, 1945 The Regular Meeting of the Planning Commission was held in the City Hall at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 1945. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mitchell Macomber Brown Stivers ABSENT: Coles Rapp Chairman Mitchell presiding. OTHERS PRESENT: City Attorney Sarmel City Clerk Uwan Building Inspector Watson There was presented application of C. F. Schuetz, Jr. for approval of a plan for an apartment building to be constructed on Lot 4, Block 8, Burlingame Gardens Subdivision, to contain three apartments. On motion of Commissioner Brown, seconded by Commissioner Macomber, it was unanimously voted to approve the plan. Lewis A. Nelson of Nelson & Shirkey Planing Mill appeared in behalf of his appli- cation for variance of the zone affecting Lots 4B and 5A, Block 17, Lyon & Hoag Subdivision. A Mr. Badeaux and a Mrs. Pohl, neighbors, appeareVaat first indicated they might have ob- jection to the granting of a variance, but in the discussion of the subject, they assured the Planning Commission that if they had any objection it was withdrawn and that they vlould be satisfied to see the variance granted. The Commission stated that they desired only to hear the petition on its merits, realizing that the location is one on which a planing mill already is established and where the owners have kept that property in a neat and attractive manner. Also, there are nearby numerous residential properties which are well kept up. In the discussion Mr. Nelson indicates that he was aware of the presence of residential property in the neighborhood and he assured the Commission and the neighbors that it is his intention and he promises to use the property in a manner which will not be objectionable to the neighbors and that he will construct an ornamental fence or hedge and do the necessary amount of work to continue the attractive appearance of the neighborhood. On a motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously voted to recommend the variance. Following the above hearing there was some general discussion relating to possible development of the Bay Shore section of Burlingame, and Dr. Macomber presented a plat or drawing indicating proposed plans for a recreational area and a yacht harbor. This subject will be brought up again at a later date. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 10:30.Q.11%,' D. A. tivers, Secretary.
