September 28, 1945 The Regular Meeting of the Planning Commission was held in the City Hall at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 1945. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mitchell OTHERS PRESENT: City Attorney Karmel Coles City Clerk Dwan Macomber City Engineer Longson Brown Stivers Shattuck Chairman Mitchell presiding. It was brought to the attention of the Commission that the new apartment house under construction on the Westerly line of El Camino Real, North of Broadway, is set back 15, 611. It was brought out in discussion that it was understood the owner would maintain a 20' set -back and the plans were approved by the Commission on that basis. City Attorney Karmel was present and his advice was asked, and he advised the Commission that the work could be ordered stopped until such time as the structure is moved back to the proper distance. Accordingly, City Engineer Longson was instructed to have the work stopped until the owner complies with the set -back requirement. Commissioner Coles and all the commissioners present indicated that they are in accord with the thought that all building permits relating to apartments on El Camino Real, and permits for duplexes, be first submitted to the Planning Commission as provided in the Burlingame Ordinance Code., Commissioner Macomber made the motion and it was seconded by Commissioner Brown, and on roll call unanimously carried that the Planning Commission recommends to the City Council that Lots 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, Block 46, and Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Block 47, Town of Burlingame, be rezoned from the "Commercial" to the "Apartment" zone. Commissioner Shattuck made the motion and it was seconded by Commissioner Coles, ,%and on rollcall unanimously carried that the Planning Commission recommends to the City /Council that Lot 1, Block 22, Burlingables Subdivision, be rezoned from the "Commercial" to the "Apartment" zone. The Commission carried on a discussion regarding the proposed fire tower on California Drive, and the consensus of opinion was that this is not a good location for suds a structure, both on account of the appearance of the structure itself in that neighborhood, and the traffic condition it would create on California Drive by the equipment being there from the fire departments of the three cities which plan to use the tower. It was thought it would be much better if the fire tower is needed, to build it in another location possi- bly at the corporation yard. There was a good deal of discussion of a preliminary map of the.Commercial District "with proposed extension and improvements" having to do with the possibility of creating an area in the vicinity of Park ?load for the use of professional people such as doctors and lawyers and dentists, etc. and an adjacent area extending from California Drive for the use of automotive trades. No definite recommendation was made at this time and the subject was referred back to the sub -committee for further study of the proposed plans. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10.50 p.m. D: A. Secretary.
