This special meeting was held to review the plans of the Lang Realty Co. to construct twenty-three new duplex buildings on Bayshore Boulevard. Mr. Lang presented plans and water color drawings of the proposed structures and immediately it was ap- parent that a number of the neighbors and representatives of local improvement clubs intended to present vigorous opposition. A. W. Frazier, President, Burlingables Oak Grove Manor Improvement Club, stated that while the new pictures appeared somewhat more attractive than the duplexes norr, in the Bayshore Tract, his organization nevertheless questioned if the Lang Realty Co. could, under present wartime conditions, do a good job of construction and urged that the project be postponed. William B. Glynn, Chair- man, Progress Committee, Burlingables Oak Grove Manor Improvement Club, stated that only poor grades of lumber are now obtainable and inferior substitutes must be used for hardware and other materials, with restrictions on fixtures and the building of garages, and urged postponement stating that he wished to protest any further construc- tion of this type along the Bayshore Highway. Mr. Lang responded that these new structures were going to cost him an average of $7,000 for each two-family duplex and that, as far as restrictions on garages are concerned, he would be willing to put up a cash bond to guarantee building them when government restrictions are relaxed. Council- man Roth, who was present, made a vigorous protest regarding this type of development and urged that the :natter should be postponed for further study. Mr. Brown suggested that the matter be postponed to next Thursday night to give opportunity to members of the commission to look over the project on the ground next Saturday afternoon.
