As requested on Monday, August 28, 2011, I visited the above site to inspect and comment on
the trees. New coustruction is planned for this site and as required a survey of the trees on site
and a tree protection plan will be included.
Method:
Al] inspections wc�e made from thc geound; the frees were not climbed for this inspecfion. The
trces in quesrion were Iocated on a map provided by yoa The trees were then measured for
diameter at 54 inches above ground level (DBH oe diametec at brenst height). The trees were
gven a condition mting for form and vitality. The trees' condition rating is based on 50 percent
vitality and 50 perceut form, using U�e following scale.
1 - 29 Very Poor
30 - 49 Poor
50 - G9 Fair
70 - 89 Gaod
90 - 100 �xcelle�t
The heighls of tlie hees were meosived using a Nikon Poreslry 550 Hypsomcter. The spread was
paced ofE Cortunents and recommendations for future maintenance are provided.

Summary:
The property hss been well maintained in the p�est. 17ic trees on this site are a mix of imported
trees and one native redwood. The trees are on the perimeter of tlie propertics, ideal for
conshvetion. With normal tree protection the neighbors hees will not be affected by the
proposed wnstruction.
Tree Profec8on Plan:
Tree protcction zones:
♦ Should 6e established and maintained throughout the cntire lenglli of the project
♦ Fencing for the protection zones should be 4 foot tall orange plaslic type supported by
metal stakes powded into the ground. The support stalces shovld be spaced no more than
] 0 feet apart on center.
e The location for the protection fencing should be as close to the dripline as possible still
. allowing room for consiruclion to safely continue.
e Signs should be placed on fencing signifying "Tree Protection Zone - Keep OuF'.
♦ No materials or equipment shouid be stered or cleaned inside the tree protectio� zones.
0 Areas outside the fencing but still beneath U�e dripline oFprotected hees, where foot
traffic is expected to be heary, sl�ould be mulched with 4 to 6 inches of chipper chips.
Tl�e spreading o€chips will help [o relieve compaclion and impcove the soil structure.
Root Cutting:
♦ Any roots to be cut should be monirored and documen[ed.
♦ Lurge roots or lurge masses of roo[s to be cut should be inspected by the site azborist.
0 17te site azborist may recommend Fertilizing oc irrigafion if root cut[ing is significant.
♦ Cnt al] roots clean with a Saw or loppers.
♦ Roots to be left exposed for a period of time should be covered vrith ]ayers of burlap and
kept moist.
Trendtin�:
♦ Trcncl�ing for irrigation, elecirical, drainage or any other reason should 6e hand dug
when beneath the driplines of pratected trees. Hand dioging and carefully layins pipes
6elow or beside protceted roats will dramatic111y reduce raot loss of desircd trees ihus
mducing hauma to the enfve tree.

♦ Trenches should be hackfilled as soon as possible with narive ma[erial and compactcd to
near its original Icvel.
♦ Trenches that must be ]eft exposed for a pedod of time should also be coveced with layers
of burlap and kept moist. Plywoad over the top of the trench will also help protect
exposed roots below.
Irrigation:
♦ Normal imgation should be maintained lhroughout the entire length oFthe project.
♦ The imported 4ees on this site will require'vrigntion during the warm seasou months.
♦➢uring the summer months the Irees on Uus site should receive heavy flood type
irrigation 2 times a month.
♦ Imgation during Uie winter months may also be necessary, depending on ihe seasonal
minfalL Plood type uxigation 1 timc per month during the fall a�d winter months may be
advised by the site atboxist.
♦ Mulching the root zone of protected 4ees will help the soil retain moisture, thus reducuig
water consumption.
Demolition, Pazking and Stsging:
♦ During the demolition process all4ee protection must be in pinee.
♦ An inspecfion prior to the star[ ofthe demolition may he required.
♦ Ali vehicles must remain on paved surfaces if possible. If vehicles aze to stray from
paved surfaces, 4 to 6 inches of chips shall be spread and pfywood laid over the mulch
layer when inside root zones. This type of landscape buffer will help reduce compaction
of desired trees.
♦ Parking will not 6e allowed offthe paved surfaces near protected frees.
♦ The iemoval of fomdation materials (including curbs, asphalt nnd retaining walls), when
inside the driplines of protected trees, should be carried out witIi care. Hand excavation
m¢y be xequired in azeas of heary rooting.
o Exposed or damaged roots should be repaired and covered with native soil.
♦ Tree pro[ection feacing may need to 6e moved after the demolition. The site acborist
should be notified and the relocated fence sliould be inspected.
This information should be kept on site at al] times. The information included in this report is
