OPDINANCE PROHIBITING THE KEEPING OF
CHICKENS
The CITY COUNCIL of the CITY OF BURLIidGAME does ORDAIN '!
`, Section 1. Section 9.08.010 of -the Burlingame
Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
"9`.03.010 Conditions for keeping poultry and rabbits.
It is unlawful `to keep or maintain or cause to be kept or maint-
ained within the �ity any live ducks, geese, turkeys, pigeons,
doves, squabs or other fowl, or any rabbits, except under the
following conditions,`,,namely:
(a.) Cannot Run at Large. Such poultry or rabbits shall
under no circumstances be -permitted to run or be at large, upon
any premises other than those of the person in the immediate
possession or control of such`,poultry or rabbits.
(b.) Location of Enclosures. Suc11 poultry or rabbits must
at all times be kept within the confines of a yard or enclosure
to be located on the rear half of the lot which shall be enclosed
on all sides by a good and substantial fence. The yard enclosure
shall not be within thirty-five feet of,,any dwelling or within
thirty-five feet o£ any street lines.
(c.) Enclosure to be Kept Clean. A11� yards, cages, coops,
cotes, warrens or similar structures or enclosures for such
', poultry or rabbits shall be cleaned once each ��ek, and otherwise
' kept in a sanitary condition and free from offensive odors.
(d.) Chickens. No chickens shall be kept, eri'closed,__
maintained or allowed within the City, except as provided in
Section 9.03.070.
(e.) Limitation unon Number of Poultry or Rabbits.`.It is
�I'� unlawful for any person in any event to keep or maintain more
than a total number of twelve poultry or rabbits upon any single
lot, parcel or piece of land within the City.

"9.08.070 Exemptions. The provisions of this chapter
are not, applicable to the following: (e) Owners who raise
chickens\,for programs of a recognized youth or agricultural
organization, and only under such circumstances and conditions
as may be specifically permitted by the City Manager. All such
chickens shall,at a minimum, meet the requirements of Section
9.08.010."
Section '3. This ordinance shall be published as
required by law.
