HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - PC - 1936.04.30City Planning Commission Burlingame, California April 30, 1936 The Stated Meeting of the Planning Commission of the City of Burlingame held in the City Hall on Thursday evening April 30, 1936, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Fames H. Mitchell presiding. Other members present Mayor C. A. Buck, City Attorney John F. Davis, City Engineer E. L. Longson, H. P. Vollmer, Miss Janet Rogers, George W. Coleman, Dr. Made Macomber, C. Macdonald, and F. D. Anne rs on. The minutes of the regular meeting held March 27, 1936, were read and approved. A Petition signed by Property Owners favoring the widening of Oak Grove Avenue was submitted to the Commission by Mr. Lawrenoe,H. Hovig, also a letter from The Board of Trustees of the Burlingame Elementary School district signed by Lester D. Henderson, District Su erintendent stating they had no objection to eliminating five (5 feet from the boulevard stop adjoining the McKinley School grounds. The :Petition called for the widening of the Avenue five (5) feet on each side between El Camino Real to California Drive, and suggesting the City use its share of the State gasoline Tax funds, to finance the project. The question as to the best means of �+ handling the proposed improvement,. and at the same time, provide for the care of trees was discussed at length. The Oommission agreed to discuss the matter further at the special meeting to be held April 14, 1936. A Letter from Mrs. Amy C. Aubury, owner of certain property at #1145 Laguna Avenue was read by the Secretary. The property is located 100 feet from Broadway with a frontage of 105 feet -- now zoned as Apartment house property except 5 feet of the front- age which is in the business zone. The Petitoner stated that she has an offer to rent the House as a High Class Dining Room, and to use the upper story as a Room- ing House. Mrs. Aubury was advised that the matter would be given consideration at a special meeting to be held May 14th. An Application to rezone property at the corner of Ralston Ave., and X1 Camino Real to permit an undertAkiAg establishment was submitted by Mr. Wm. Crosbyl Seveftl Fromt�,thi=-AAd&nnoe spoke against granting permission, including Mr. Theodore Breslauer, 1512 Ralston Ave, Mr. C. W. Bennett, Mr. Thomas, and Miss Anne Gray 240 E1 Camino Real, also a Telegram was read from Los Angeles signed by Mrs. Thomas Leonard, owner of property at 1513 Ralston Avenue, in protest thereto. }. The Application was denied by unanimous vote of the Commission for the reason that to do so would be contrary to the provisions of the City Ordianoe prohibiting Business on E1 Camino Real. -2- Meeting Burlingame Planning Comm. April 30th, (oontrd) The Real Estate Board of Burlingame announced the appointment of Mr. Lewis C. Merrell of 1525 Ralston Avenue, as their Representative;at the Meetings of the Planning Commission in the future. Mr. Merrell was present at the meeting. A formal application for the zoning of the Bayshore Highway frontage, from Oak Grove Avenue to Burlingame,AUxAs, to permit the erection of Apartment Houses was rooeived from the Orossways Development Company through the Lang realty Corp- oration. The application to be considered at the speoial meeting to be held May 14, 1936. A Communication from Mrs. I. J. Brooks and Irving Brooke, opposing proposed pland for the remodeling of a'residence on the corner of E1 Camino Real and Broddway by Dr. Martin, Dentist.
