ROLL CALL Present: Chair Batte, Commissioners Bauer, Chu, and Kirchner Absent: Commissioner Khoury Staff: Parks and Recreation Director Glomstad, Parks Supervisor Burow, and Recording Secretary Flores Others: None MINUTES Commissioner Kirchner made a motion to approve the September 5, 2024, Regular Meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Chu and was approved. 4-0-1 CORRESPONDENCE None PUBLIC COMMENT None PRESENTATION None OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS 1. City Council Presentation of Landscape Awards Discussion Director Glomstad confirmed with the Commissioners that the 2024 Landscape Awards would be presented at the City Council meeting on October 21, 2024. Commissioner Kirchner stated that he would complete the PowerPoint presentation and the window decals. Also, he stated that he reached out to Mayor Colson about commissioning a watercolor painting for the Business Landscape Award winner and would follow up to see if that would be ready for the presentation. REPORTS Supervisor Burow reported that the Fall Street Tree Planting will begin the week of October 7, 2024, and 250 trees are expected to be planted through the beginning of November. She confirmed that the new trees will be sufficiently watered to ensure they survive until the rainy season begins. She reported on contract tree work underway around the city; the first was Mario’s Tree Service, working on California Drive near the donut shop and then moving to El Camino Real near the hospital. Also, WCA is working on the routine grid pruning. She stated that utility conflict removal work will be done through PG&E and homeowners will be noticed. Supervisor Burow confirmed that Arborist Holtz will present the Tree Ordinance Update 2 at the October 21, 2024, City Council meeting. The Cuernavaca Field Renovation Project and the Mills Canyon Landslide Repair Project will be finished by the end of the month. Secretary Flores stated that there was a tentative ribbon cutting date scheduled for the Cuernavaca Field Renovation for Monday, November 4, 2024, at 3:30 PM, with confirmation to follow. Also, the Burlingame Mobility Hub ribbon cutting was tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 1 PM. Lastly, she reported that the Town Square public bid closed, and the City received four bids. Director Glomstad confirmed that the construction contract would also be presented at the City Council meeting on October 21, 2024. UPCOMING AGENDA ITEMS Director Glomstad stated that Jennifer Pfaff would be presenting the Ansel Mills Easton’s Burlingame Railway Company panel to the Commission at the December meeting. She also commented on the Trees of Burlingame publication and inquired if we were ready to bring the content back to a future meeting. Commissioner Kirchner confirmed a few updates are required on photographs and a map before it is ready for publication. Director Glomstad suggested it be brought back on the December agenda as well. Commissioner Chu inquired about engaging with the community to ensure tree watering needs are being monitored. Director Glomstad stated that the Adopt-A-Tree program was established through the Commission and staff many years back. She asked Secretary Flores to send content information about the program to the Commissioners and have the item agendized in the New Year for discussion and updates. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m. The next Beautification Commission meeting is scheduled for November 7, 2024.
