PRESENTATIONS – Summer Intern 2 Parks & Recreation Commission APPROVED Minutes August 15, 2024 Supervisor Vega introduced Amanda Nolan, who interned for the Department in the summer. Nolan introduced herself to the Commission and presented what she worked on over the summer. She focused on marketing within the community as she is a student at UCSB where she is studying communications and media. She notes that she hopes to go into marketing or journalism. She appreciated this opportunity as a marketing intern. Her tasks included creating graphics for events that would be shared on different social media platforms and flyers posted around the Community Center. She also assisted with social media and organizing the social media platforms. One of the biggest projects she worked on was updating the tree brochures with information on trees that every resident should know, from city trees to private trees, how to get a tree permit properly, and other general tree tips. Also, the park bulletin boards at each park throughout the city were updated and revamped with current relevant information. She noted that updated information was to expand the audience and reach more people who may not be on social media or come into the Community Center. She also noted her goal was to post more consistently on social media to help with engagement and to diversify the media coverage. Commission asked if she delved into the metrics and AI with social media. She confirmed that she did on both.
