HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 098-1987RESOLUTION NO. 98-87 CITY OF BURLINGAME, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ELIMINATION OF HETCH HETCHY WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM RESOLVED, by the City Council of Burlingame of the State of California, that WHEREAS, the Congress of this United States approved the con- struction of the Hetch Hetchy Water Supply System in 1913; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has grown and prospered during the Twentieth Century as a result of a dependable water supply from the Hetch Hetchy Water System; and WHEREAS, the Hetch Hetchy System now serves more than two mil- lion people, one-fourth of whom live or work in San Mateo County; and WHEREAS, the Secretary of Interior has proposed to eliminate the Hetch Hetchy Water Supply System; and WHEREAS, by said action, the Secretary of Interior would eliminate a dependable source of water of the highest purity; and WHEREAS, by said action, the Secretary of Interior would eliminate an environmentally safe and economical source of hydro- electric energy. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that: 1. This Council vigorously opposes the destruction of the Hetch Hetchy Water Supply System as it would adversely affect the lives of the citizens of Burlingame, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the State of California. 2. This Council supports the City and County of San Francisco's efforts to enlighten the Secretary of Interior on the importance of this Water and Power System to the people of the Bay Area and the State. 3. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to the Secretary of Interior, all Members of Congress of the United States which represent San Mateo and San Francisco Counties, and to the City and County of San Francisco. Mayor I, JUDITH A. MALFATTI, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the Burlingame City Council held on the 8th day of September, 1987, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEN: AMSTRUP, BARTON, LEMBI, MANGINI, PAGLIARO NOES: COUNCILMEN: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: NONE City Clerk 0 � r;t
