RESOLUTION NO. 67-93
CALLING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A
SAN MATEO COUNTY REPRESENTATIVE TO THE
SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORTS COMMISSION
RESOLVED by the CITY COUNCIL of the City of Burlingame, California, and this
Council does hereby find, order and determine as follows:
WHEREAS, San Francisco International Airport is located entirely in San Mateo
County and the significant impacts and effects of its operation are contained within that
county; and
WHEREAS, even though San Mateo County is heavily impacted by the operation of
San Francisco International Airport, the airport is controlled by the San Francisco Airports
Commission whose members, all San Francisco residents, are appointed by the mayor of San
Francisco; and
WHEREAS, the current makeup of the San Francisco Airports Commission excludes
San Mateo County from meaningful participation in its discussions, deliberations and
decisions even though they have a profound effect on San Mateo County; and
WHEREAS, San Mateo County input in San Francisco Airports Commission
discussions, deliberations and decisions is particularly important at a time when the airport is
undergoing an unprecedented expansion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Burlingame urges the mayor of San Francisco to initiate whatever steps are necessary so a
San Mateo County resident may be appointed to the San Francisco Airports Commission to
allow the county a fair and necessary voice in Airports Commission discussions, delibera-
tions and decisions.
