RURLINGAME, CALIF.94010
RESOLUTION NO. 40-92
RESOLUTION URGING WITHHOLDING OF FUNDING FOR
BART -SFO EXTENSION UNTIL DOWNTOWN CALTRAIN EXTENS]
IS ASSURED AND URGING NEIGHBORHOOD PRESERVATION
RESOLVED by the CITY COUNCIL of the City of Burlingame, California, and this
Council does hereby find, order and determine as follows:
WHEREAS, a downtown San Francisco Caltrain extension is essential to the success and
improvement of rail transit on the Peninsula; and
WHEREAS, San Mateo County support of Caltrain over the years has never faltered and
the public has now purchased the Caltrain right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, during the 1987 Measure K campaign, San Mateo County voters were
assured that there would be sufficient funds to build both the BART -SFO extension and the
Caltrain extension, but now we are being told that there is not enough money for both; and
WHEREAS, current BART extension studies propose BART extension routes which
would cause major neighborhood disruption on the Peninsula while disregarding routes which
would be less intrusive and consequently preserve houses and businesses;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED that the Burlingame City Council urges that any
funding for BART extensions south of the Colma station be withheld until the downtown San
Francisco Caltrain extension is assured and urges neighborhood preservation in any proposed
BART extension.
