HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 019-1993RESOLUTION NO. 19-93 CONCERNING WATER SHORTAGE EMERGENCY RESOLVED, by the CITY COUNCIL of the CITY OF BURLINGAME, that WHEREAS, on May 7, 1990 this Council declared a Water Shortage Emergency in response to such a declaration by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, the supplier of water to the City of Burlingame; and WHEREAS, this Council has adopted Emergency Rules and Regulations to implement mandatory rationing; and WHEREAS, on March 23, 1993 the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission declared that the water shortage emergency has ended and has determined that rationing by the City and its customers is no longer necessary; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has recommended a 15% voluntary conservation plan; NOW, THEREFORE, it is RESOLVED that because the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has ended its Emergency, all rationing and restrictions imposed by Resolution No. 48-90 and by subsequent resolutions, including banking, are no longer in effect, except those set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the customers of the Burlingame Water Department are urged to voluntarily conserve 15% of the pre -drought use and that the Regulations and Restrictions described in Exhibit A are hereby adopted; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the citizens of Burlingame are commended upon their outstanding efforts during the water shortage emergency. MALFATTI, City Clerk of the City of Burlin- game, do hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 7th day of APRIL 1993, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARRISON, KNIGHT, O'MAHONY, PAGLIARO NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: LEMBI City Clerk 2 EXHIBIT A WATER CONSERVATION PLAN RESOLUTION NO. 19-93 1. The customers of the Burlingame Water Department are requested and urged to voluntarily continue water conservation practices so that the Water Department as a whole can conserve 15% of pre -drought water use. 2. The following are the Regulations and Restrictions: A. Water waste, flooding or runoff into the street or gutters is prohibited. B. Hoses used for any purpose must have positive shutoff valves. C. Restaurants or hotel banquets may serve water only upon request. D. Water used for all cooling purposes must be recycled. E. Use of reduced water flow equipment for the washing of fleet or dealer vehicles is strongly encouraged. Positive shutoff valves must be used. F. Broken or defective plumbing, sprinklers, or irrigation systems which permit the escape or leakage of water must be immediately repaired. 3. New customers at the time of application for water service shall provide the Water Department with information on the number of residents or the number of employees and/or square footage in order to keep account data current.
