HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 064-1995RESOLUTION N0. 64-95 PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF COUNCILMEMBERS IN LIEU OF ELECTION RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Burlingame, California, as follows: WHEREAS, as of the close of the nomination period on August 16, 1995, no more than one person has been nominated for each of the offices for City Councilmember to be elected on November 7, 1995, and Elections Code Section 10229 allows one of the following courses of action to be taken by this City Council: 1. Appoint to the offices the persons who have been nominated; 2. Hold the election. WHEREAS, notice was published on August 16, 1995 in a paper of general circulation pursuant to law. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Burlingame does hereby resolve, determine and order as follows: 1. That pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code the following persons are appointed to the offices of City Councilmember: Marti Knight Mary Janney 2. The election scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 1995 is hereby cancelled. 3. The persons appointed shall qualify and take office and serve exactly as if elected at a municipal election for said offices. MAYOR I, JUDITH A. MALFATTI, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 21st day of AUGUST 1995, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARRISON, KNIGHT, 01MAHONY, PAGLIARO, SPINELLI NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE r CITY CLERK CITY OF BURLINGAME NOTICE THAT THERE ARE NOT MORE CANDIDATES THAN OFFICES TO BE ELECTED NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to 810229 of the Elections Code of the State of California relating to the General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 1995 in the City of Burlingame: As of the close of the nomination period on August 16, 1995, there are not more candi- dates than offices to be elected. That Elections Code 510229 allows one of the following courses of action to be taken by the City Council: 1. Appoint to the office the persons who have been nominated. 2. Appoint to the office any eligibleter if no one has been nominated, 3. Hold the election if either no one only one person has been nominated. The City Council will meet on Monday, August 21, 1996,at 7:30 P.M. at City Hall, 601 Primrose Road, Burlingame to either make the appointments or direct an election to be held.
