CONCERNING UNDERGROUNDING OF BART FACILITIES IN BURLINGAME
that:
RESOLVED by the CITY COUNCIL of the CITY of BURLINGAME
WHEREAS, an important element of the particular ambiance
and sense of community of the City of Burlingame is the continuity
of the city on either side of the Cal -Train right of way, and the
minimal impact of that transportation corridor upon the atmosphere
of uniformity of our city; and
WHEREAS, BART has offered to place facilities in right-
of-way below grade in Colma, South San Francisco and San Bruno at
no cost to those cities; and
WHEREAS, the construction of BART facilities at grade in
any portion of that transportation corridor will result in
inestimable and irreparable negative impact upon that atmosphere of
community which this city has established over 88 years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is the policy of
this City Council that any and all facilities of the San Francisco
Bay Area Rapid Transit District which are constructed in the City
of Burlingame, including but not limited to the currently proposed
tail track, shall be constructed in a bored tunnel, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that City representatives are
directed to convey this resolution and policy to the
representatives of BART in any further conversations and
negotiations with that agency.
