REVISING PROCEDURES FOR
PAYMENT OF SELF-INSURANCE CLAIMS
Whereas, since 1976 the City of Burlingame has been self-
insured for general liability and property damage; and
Whereas, under that program the City is retains the first
$250,000 of any loss and obtains insurance for claims in excess of
that amount; and
Whereas, it is necessary from time to time to revise the
established procedures for the payment of claims within the amount
retained by the City:
NOW, THEREFORE IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Burlingame as follow:
1. The City Attorney shall be the risk manager for the
City's self-insured program and is authorized to review and
administratively deny any claims up to $500, and to settle claims
and make payments up to a maximum amount of $2,000 for any one
individual for a single claim.
2. The City Attorney with the approval of the City
Manager is authorized to settle such claims and make such payments
up to the maximum amount of $5,000.
3. The City attorney with the approval of the City
Manager and City Council shall be authorized to make such payments
and settle such claims up to the maximum amount of the self insured
retention.
4. The City Council may increase or decrease the self-
insured retention when determining the appropriate level and method
of obtaining excess insurance.
5. This resolution supersedes Resolution No. 2-77.

introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the
3rd day of SEPTEMBER 1996, and adopted thereafter by the
following vote:
