CALIF. 94010 RESOLUTION NO. 24 -95 IN SUPPORT OF UPGRADING CALTRAIN AND TERMINATING BART AT COLMA RESOLVED by the CITY COUNCIL of the City of Burlingame, California, and this Council does hereby find, order and determine as follows: WHEREAS, a meaningful alternative to the automobile would be an upgraded CalTrain system along with better feeder -bus service; and WHEREAS, the bayside communities of San Mateo County would not be served by BART -SFO but are served by CalTrain; and WHEREAS, BART will be connected to the airport via CalTrain at Embarcadero station when CalTrain is extended into downtown San Francisco; and WHEREAS, BART -SFO would not relieve traffic congestion on Highway 101, but an upgraded CalTrain would; and WHEREAS, the financial drain of operating a BART extension past Colma would compromise SamTrans funding of CalTrain as well as buses; and WHEREAS, BART will probably never "ring the Bay" because of the billions of dollars it would cost and since CalTrain can be connected with BART in downtown San Francisco as well as connected to BART in Fremont for a fraction of the cost and time to build BART; and WHEREAS, extending BART down the peninsula would eliminate CalTrain as well as require many years of construction during which thousands of current CalTrain commuters would be added to the traffic on Highway 101; and WHEREAS, the BART -SFO DEIR/SDEIS is biased in favor of BART and does not seriously consider other public transit options. CALIF. 94010 BART should terminate at Colma; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that CalTrain should be upgraded and a CalTrain connection into San Francisco International Airport should be studied.
