HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 069-1997RESOLUTION 69-97 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "1997 SPARE THE AIR CITY" CAMPAIGN WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is conducting its voluntary Spare the Air program through October 15, 1997 in the nine counties that comprise the San Francisco Bay Area; and WHEREAS, Spare the Air is now in its seventh year and has 630 public and private employers and organizations who pledge to participate in the Spare the AirProgram; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has some of the cleanest air of any metropolitan area in the nation, as evidenced by the region's designation as an attainment area for the national ozone standard in 1995, but recently began experiencing its highest air pollution levels in almost ten years and is now in jeopardy of losing its attainment status; and WHEREAS, the Bay Area Clean Air Partnership (BayCap) is a public-private partnership that supports the voluntary effort to improve the Bay Area's air including the Spare the Air Program; and WHEREAS, BayCAP will recognize cities that participate in the "Spare the Air City" Campaign by carrying the clean -air theme citywide; and WHEREAS, the City of Burlingame wishes to obtain the designation of "Spare the Air City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Burlingame pledges that the City will do the following: Educate and encourage participation in Spare the Air. 2. Establish a commute alternative information center on site for employees. I, JUDITH MALFATTI, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 4th day of AUGUST 1997, and adopted thereafter by the following vote: AYES: HARRISON, JANNEY, KNIGHT, O'MAHONY, SPINELLI NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE
