RESOLUTION NO. 10 -96
URGING STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD STUDY
OF RECOMMENDATION TO IMPROVE THE CLEAN UP PROCESS
FOR CALIFORNIA'S LEAKING UNDERGROUND FUEL TANKS
RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Burlingame, California, and this
Council does hereby FIND, ORDER and
as follows:
WHEREAS, a review of California's leaking underground fuel tank (LUFT) cleanup
process was conducted in 1995 by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and
various University of California campuses; and
WHEREAS, this study makes a series of recommendations to improve and
streamline the LUFT decision-making process; and
WHEREAS, within the City of Burlingame there are numerous LUFT sites which
have not yet been cleaned up under existing regulations and are slowing economic
development and reuse of prime locations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of the City of
Burlingame that we urge the State Water Resources Control Board to carefully study and
implement the recommendations to improve the cleanup process for California's leaking
underground fuel tanks in a cost effective and environmental beneficial manner.
