HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 028-1997RESOLUTION NO. 28-97 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME SUPPORTING THE PRESERVATION OF MEASURE 1 FUNDING AND ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EQUITABLE SYSTEM OF SEISMICALLY RETROFITTING TBE BAY AREA TOLL BRIDGES WHILE ACCOMPLISHING THE MEASURE 1 IMPROVEMENTS RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Burlingame: WHEREAS, the voters of the Bay Area adopted Regional Measure 1 in November, 1988, to fund necessary improvements to the State of California's seven toll bridges in the Bay Area; and WHEREAS, the seismic retrofitting found to be necessary following the Loma Prieta Earthquake may divert some or all of the Measure 1 funds in contravention of the voters' wishes; and WHEREAS, a fair and equitable solution involving adjustments in tolls, contributions from other transportation sources, and strong oversight is necessary if the transportation improvements to the bridges are going to completed as well as the seismic retrofitting; and WHEREAS, the improvements are vital to continued vitality of the Bay Area, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that: 1. The City Council hereby urges the State of California to find a fair and equitable balance that will fund both the Measure 1 improvements and the seismic retrofitting. j r» O'rn.�c� Mayor I, JUDITH A.
