HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 008-1997RESOLUTION 8-97 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME EXPRESSING CONCERN ABOUT CONSTRUCTING A COUNTY BIKE TRAIL ALONG THE CALTRAIN TRACKS RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Burlingame: WHEREAS, the City of Burlingame has promoted bike trails along Sawyer Camp and the Bayfront, and seeks to encourage use of other means of transportation besides the car; and WHEREAS, the City of Burlingame has gone on record supporting the upgrading of CalTrain, with increased service to San Francisco International Airport and Downtown San Francisco, while striving to protect our citizens from unsafe crossings and trespassing; and WHEREAS, the need for commuter bike paths appears to be in an east -west direction, toward our rail stations and from our residential neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, construction of a multi-purpose bike trail next to the CalTrain tracks has been rejected for many valid safety and economic reasons by the City of San Mateo, the Bikeways and Pedestrian Advisory Committee of the City/County Association of Governments (COAG), the Intercity High Speed Rail Commission, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (Division 65), and others; and WHEREAS, agencies of the County of San Mateo, including County Commissions, San Mateo County Transportation Authority, and CCAG have had insufficient input in the decision- making process relative to this multi-purpose bike trail to date, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council ofthe City of Burlingame is emphatically opposed to any pilot program or bike trail construction next to the CalTrain corridor in the City of Burlingame, and has serious concerns about the building of a bike trail next to the CalTrain tracks anywhere in San Mateo County. �• 1 MAYOR or - I, JUDITH A.
