ORDINANCE AMENDING FLOOD HAZARD.
REGULATIONS
The CITY COUNCIL of the CITY OF BURLINGAME does hereby
ORDAIN as follows:
Section 1. Subsections (b) and (e) of Section 18.22.100
of the Burlingame Municipal Code are hereby amended to read as
follows:
"(b)"Area of special flood hazard" means the land in the
floodplain within a community subject to a one percent or greater
chance of flooding in any given year. This area is designated as
1Zone A, AH, Al through A30 and V1 through V30
(e) "Coastal high hazard area" means the area subject to
high velocity waters, including but not limited to coastal and
tidal inundation or tsunamis. These areas are designated on a
;FIRM as Zone VI through V30."
Section 2. Section 18.22.320 of said Code is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"18.22.320 Basis for establishing the areas of special flood
hazard. The areas of special flood hazard identified by the
Federal Insurance Administration in a scientific and engineering
report entitled "The Flood Insurance Study for the City of
%Burlingame," dated March 16, 1981, with an accompanying Flood
Insurance Rate Map is adopted by reference and declared to be a
part of this chapter. The Flood Insurance Study is on file at
the City Engineer's office, City Hall, 501 Primrose Road, Burlingame,
California."
Section 3. Subsection (a) of Section 18.22.513 of said Code
.is hereby amended to read as follows:
1118.22.513 Elevation and floodproofing. (a) New construct-
ion and substantial improvement of any structure shall have the
%lowest habitable floor, including basement, elevated to or above
the base flood elevation. Nonresidential structures may meet the
%standards in subsection (b) of this section. Upon completion of
the structure, the elevation of the lowest habitable floor includ
ing basement shall be determined by a registered professional
engineer or surveyor and provided to the City Engineer."

Section 4. Subsections (a) and (c) of Section 18.22.
of said Code are amended to read as follows:
"18.22.Construction methods. (a) Elevation. All
buildings or structures shall be elevated so that the lowest
supporting member (excluding piles and columns) is located no
lower than the base flood elevation level, with all space below
the lowest supporting member open so as not to impede the flow of
water, except for breakaway walls as provided for in subsection
(d) of this section.
(c) Certification. A registered professional engineer or
architect shall develop or review the structural design, specific-
ations and plans for the construction, and shall certify that the
design and methods of construction to be used are in accordance
with accepted standards of practice for meeting these provisions,"
Section 5. This ordinance shall be published as required
by law.
