HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1341ORDINANCE NO. 1341 ORDINANCE RESTRICTING PARKING IN FRONT AND SIDE YARDS The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Burlingame does ORDAIN as follows: Section 1. Section 25.08.225, defining "driveway" is hereby added to the Burlingame Municipal Code to read as follows: "25.08.22$ Driveway. A DRIVEWAY is a roadway providing the most direct access for vehicles from a right of way to a garage dwelling other structure or parking space." Section 2. Section 25.08.665, defining "vehicle," is added to said code to read as follows: "25.08.665 11 Vehicle. A VEHICLE is a device by which any person or property may be propelled, moved, or drawn upon a highway, excepting a device moved by human power." Section 3. Section 25.70.020 of said code is amended to read as follows: 25.70.020 Standards For Parking Spaces, Aisles and Driveways. (c) . (1) The minimum driveway width shall be twelve feet for parking areas with not more than thirty vehicles. Parking in areas with more than thirty vehicle spaces shall have either two twelve -foot wide driveways or one eighteen -foot wide driveway. A driveway shall be no wider than the garage or parking area it serves; (z) Single -Family Dwellings. There shall be at least one permanently maintained garage or covered carport for each single-family dwelling with the further require- ment that any single-family dwellings hereafter con- structed which contain three or more bedrooms shall provide garage or carport space for at least two vehicles. No existing single-family dwelling which contains two or more bedrooms and less than two garages or carports of legal dimensions shall be en- larged or remodeled by the addition of one or more bedrooms unless at least two garage or carport spaces of such dimensions are provided, except that the requirement for additional carport or garage space may be waived for such enlargements of existing dwellings: (1) Where a driveway of sufficient dimensions, measured for the legally established front setback line to an existing garage, will accommodate the prescribed number of automobiles; in such a case, tan- dem parking will be permitted; or (2) Where the existing garage is not less than eighteen feet wide and twenty feet in length. A vehicle shall not be parked between a structure and the front or side property line except in a garage, driveway, or other approved parking. (b) Duplexes, Apartment, Apartment Hotels, and Condominiums. (1) There shall be at least one and one-half per- manently maintained parking spaces on the same lot with the building for each dwelling unit in the building. (3) bedrooms, there shall be provided at least two and one-half parking spaces. Eighty percent of the total required parking spaces shall be covered or within a garage or carport. Parking spaces shall not be situated in the front or side setback areas. A vehicle shall not be parked be- tween a structure and the front or side property line except in a garage, driveway, or other approved parking." Section 5. This ordinance shall be published as required by law. Mayor I, JUDITH A.
