MEETING MINUTES
Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission
Thursday, March 20, 2014
The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair
Lau at 7:04 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame.
1. ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present: Lau, Baird, Colson and Baum
Commissioners Absent: Eaton, Martin and Hesselgren
Staff Present: Director Glomstad, Supervisors Barry and Administrative
Secretary Helley, Recreation Coordinator Kari Thorson
Others Present: Ralph Richart, Burlingame Soccer Club; Mike Brunicardi,
Burlingame Youth Baseball Association
2. MINUTES
The Minutes of the February 20, 2014 regular meeting were approved.
3. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None
4. OLD BUSINESS
a. Dog Off -Leash Update — Director Glomstad reported of a modification to the ending time to
change to 2:00 pm. The signs indicating off -leash areas have arrived and will be installed at each park.
The dispensers for the pickup bags will be arriving in the next week or so and will be installed as well.
5. NEW BUSINESS
a. Youth Advisory Committee Update — Recreation Coordinator Thorson introduced
representatives of the YAC, who reported to Commission the upcoming events of Street Alive (May
4t) and Mission IMPastaBLE Spaghetti Feed (April 30th). Funds raised at the spaghetti feed event will
be donated to the department's scholarship program to assist families with fees for camps, afterschool
classes and sports.
b. Field Density Matrix Report — Supervisor Barry reported the content of the field density
matrix takes into account all the fields in Burlingame and how many kids for each sport the field can
support at one time for practices and games. Commission discussed fine tuning the matrix such as
adding "per team" and updates the numbers for softball. Commission directed staff to add wording
with intent and bring version back to Commission in April.

1. Monthly Report — Glomstad reminded the Commission of an early study session for
Commission prior to the April 17 meeting.
b. Correspondence — None
c. Commissioner Reports — None
7. ADJOURNMENT
The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday,
April 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
