MEETING MINUTES
Regular Meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission
Thursday, November 20, 2014
The regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair
Lau at 7:00 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame.

Approvals of the Minutes of the October 16, 2014 regular meeting were approved.
3. PRESENTATION — Youth Advisory Committee- YAC representatives Molly Kaplan, Paulina
Licavoli, XXXXXX and Coordinator Guastella reported on recent activities of the committee including
fundraising money for the department scholarship fund, a Scare for Hunger Food Drive and a middle
school movie night. The group also has plans to present a drug awareness and anti-cyber bullying night.
4. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Suze Gardner from the Burlingame Aquatic Club spoke to the Commission regarding some of
the recent difficulties the Club has encountered with the San Mateo Union High School District in terms
of the schedule sharing of the pool. The District is restricting the availability of the pool to the Club and
these restrictions will impact the competitive and community swim programs. Gardner expressed her
concerns to the Commission and informed them of the challenges the Club faces with the new hours.
5. OLD BUSINESS
A. Ad Hoc Committee for Review of Parks & Recreation Department Mission Statement —
Baum reported the October 30th meeting of the committee netted a lot of good ideas which will be
condensed at the next meeting set for December 11 at 7:00 pm.
6. NEW BUSINESS
None
7. REPORTS/HANDOUTS
a. Parks & Recreation Reports
Monthly Report —
a. Community Center Master Plan Update — The Community Advisory Committee
(CAC) will be reaching out to the Community in January and the next meeting
will take place in late January to early February of 2015.
b. Foundation Update — The next meeting of the Foundation is set for November 24th
at 7:00 pm.
c. Upcoming Events — The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is set for Friday,
December 5th 5 — 6 pm.

8. ADJOURNMENT
The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday,
December 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame Recreation Center.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
