RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME
EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO ASSEMBLY BILL 670
NOW PENDING BEFORE THE CALIFORNIA STATE SENATE
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Burlingame:
WHEREAS, the California State Assembly has approved Assembly Bill 670 that would grant
broad authority to SamTrans and BART to acquire property throughout the Bay Area and the State
of California so long as it has some connection to a "transit facility" and to develop the property as
either district saw fit; and
WHEREAS, this authority would be exempt from local zoning and hearing processes; and
WHEREAS, this authority would make both districts capable of acquiring, developing, and
operating property that bear no relationship to the basic purposes or territory of either agency; and
WHEREAS, there is no apparent or demonstrated need for the extension of this broad
authority to either district; and
WHEREAS, this acquired property could exempt significant property holdings from local
property taxes,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council ofthe City ofBurlingame
is opposed to the enactment of Assembly Bill 670 in its present form.

that the foregoing resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the_
21st day of JUNE 11999, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote:
