at the corner of E1 Camino Real and Murchison Drive, and Parcel "B", on
California Drive and Murchison Drive,
Chairman Kindig tecognized Mr, Robert Newell, representing the applicant.
Mr. Newell advis d that Parcel "A" has been developed by Union Oil Company
as a service sta ion. It is intended to sell the unused portion of the
property, design ted on the map as Parcel "B".
The City Enginee advised that the map is satisfactory and complies with
Code requirement
There being no protests recorded, oral or written, a motion was introduced
)y Commissioner Cistulli approving the resubdivision in accordance with
the map on file. Motion seconded by Commissioner Norberg and unanimously

3. SIGN VARIANCES - Peninsula Temple Sholom, Sebastian Drive.
A communication ated October 16, 1962, from Leonard T. Michaels, architect,
requested a vari nce from the provisions of the Sign Ordinance, in behalf
of Peninsula Temple Sholom, 1655 Sebastian Drive.
The communication advised that the Temple desires to place an identification
sign on the Sebastian Drive frontage which extends for a distance of 530
feet between Arguello and Rivera Drives. It is felt that a sign limited
to 15 square feet, as provided by ordinance, would be too small in scale
to offer adquate identification.

Chairman Kindig invited comments from those in attendance.
Mro Rick Nuccitel i, 1614 Sebastian Drive, protested that the sign will de-
tract from the re idential character of the neighborhood.
Upon examining th architect's drawings, posted for the information of those
in attendance, Mr. Nucitelli indicated approval of the design but requested
that the size be eld to a minimum
The City Planner, in reply to the Chair, explained that the Sign Ordinance
provides for signs not over 15 square feet in area for religious institutions
when located on t e premises. The ordinance delegates to the Planning Com-

Commissioner No berg noted that the sign is properly designed and pro-
portioned to the general architectural treatment of the buildings;
,,-----,the excess above the permitted size is minor and the problem of illumina-
tion has been a iminated.
Commissioner No berg thereupon introduced a motion approving a variance
in size only for an identification sign for the Peninsula Temple Sholom,
in accordance with the architect's drawings on file. Motion seconded by
Commissioner Ci tulli and unanimously carried on roll call vote.
In comment dire ted to those in attendance interested in the above pro-
ceedings, the C air explained that it was the position of the Commission
that with the i lumination factor eliminated, and the minor increase in
size over the p rmitted size, the sign will not create a nuisance nor
detract from neighboring properties.
The Chair annou ced that any person has the right of appeal to the City
Council.
The hearing was thereafter declared concluded.
