VI. Reports
A. Monthly Report — Ray De Lara
Ray presented the Trustees with a summary of plans and projects
both current and future in the Technical Service Department. Here
are some of the highlights.
• New AMH should be operational by the week of April 22nd.
• The system is smaller than the old AMH and therefore two more
work stations can be added.
• Children sewing classes are held in the Tech. Lab. Adult classes
may be available in the future.
• Upon the completion of a review by the Technical Service staff
memory kits for dementia patients will be introduced into the
library collection.
• The works of local authors are available to the public. However,
their works are not in the Collection Development Plan.
• The Technical Services staff is in the beginning stages of
creating a new website, as well changing the Tech. Lab to a
Maker Space.
B. City Librarian's Report
Brad included three policies in his report: the Public Records Act,
Data Retention Policy and Law Enforcement Records Requests.
These policies give staff the background needed to respond to any
requests by law enforcement to turn over any library public records
that are legally requested.
C. Foundation Report
Trivia Night is Friday April 26th. The event is sold out.
VII. Old Business
A. AMH
The plan is to have the AMH up and running the week of April 22nd.

determined.

There were 100 quotes submitted. The committee is currently
reviewing the entries.

Easton Update:
Background:
• The Easton Branch Library opened in 1942, in the former clubhouse of the Burlingame Women's
Club.
When the Easton Branch opened, it held 3,000 volumes - today there are over 17,000 volumes.
Easton was a full -service library from the 1950's through the mid 1970's - open 48 hours per
week. We are currently open 30 hours per week - Monday -Thursday 2-8 pm, and Friday &
Saturday 2-5 pm.
• In 1978, Proposition 13 nearly closed Easton, but a group of citizens came to the rescue, including
current Burlingame Library Trustee Kris Cannon and Burlingame Library Foundation member
Frank Pagliaro. This group helped save Easton, and it was able to stay open with reduced hours.
• In 2001, the Burlingame City Council agreed to a renovation plan for Easton, in part because of
the condition of the building - leaking windows, dry rot, and a termite infestation. The building
also needed to be updated for seismic safety and to provide accessibility for physically disabled
patrons.
Easton closed for renovation in 2003 and reopened in October 2004 as a completely new space.
The 3,000 square foot space now highlights popular materials, audio visual materials and a large
children's collection, all on one level.
K
Currently:
• We offer two Storytimes per week at Easton. We have a Bedtime Storytime on Wednesday
evenings, and we recently resumed our All Ages Storytime on Tuesday mornings.
• Easton is a popular spot after school because four elementary schools -- Our Lady of Angels,
Lincoln School, Roosevelt School, and Hoover School -- are all within walking distance of the
Branch.
• The Children's Dept. staff meets with a variety of classes from OLA, Lincoln, Roosevelt and
Hoover schools for library visits at Easton during the school year.
• The major Children's Dept. programming that we offer at the Main Library — such as Summer
Learning, Winter Reading, and Poetry Month for Elementary age children — are all promoted at
Easton as well.
• We offer special programs during the year (generally quarterly events for children) — including a
Family Fun Night program in the summer, a special Fall event (last year it was a pumpkin painting
program), and a holiday program in December. Last year it was a Holiday and Winter music
presentation.
Last year we circulated nearly 81,000 items at the Easton Branch.
• The Easton Branch continues to be a treasured neighborhood library — one where many patrons
walk from their nearby homes to enjoy this beautiful gem in north Burlingame!
