Roll Call Trustees Present: Mike Nagler, Randi Murray, Lisa Rosenthal, (Recorder), Andy Blanco, Kerbey Altmann Staff Present: Brad McCulley, City Librarian Sidney Poland, Administration Assistant II. Library Board of Trustees Minutes The September 29, 2017 meeting minutes were unanimously approved. M/S/C (Nagler/Blanco) III. Statistics • The new graph shows slight decline in circulation but increase in e- media; looks like Canopy streaming service will be coming to SM County libraries. Brad will probably request funding from the Foundation for this service. • Randi requested that the e-media be broken down by ebooks, audiobooks and other categories for future statistics reporting. IV. Librarians report • STEAM fest coming up. Volunteers are needed to man a table. • Strategic plan will be topic for Nov trustees meeting V. Unfinished Business Update on Speaker series Pricing is being discussed. The plan is to have 1SO-17S tickets at one price and SO-7S VIP tickets to include reception. There will be some comp seats. Tickets will be sold on-line. Seating depends on layout of room. The committee is starting to work on graphics, promotions, and sponsorships. VI. New Business A. i Pads Children's room computers are 7 years old. The plan is to replace the computers with 4 I pads. The Trustees discussed the possibility of new I pads vs. refurbished I pads. It was noted that refurbished I pads have a good reputation. Questions arose as to how long the Apple care is valid for. The Trustees passed a motion to take funds from the copier account to purchase the refurbished I pads. M/S/C (Rosenthal/Altmann) B. Silicon Valley Community Foundation Update The New representation from the SVCF will be at our January 16tn meeting C. Monthly Topic - Tommy McMahon Adult services to be discussed at a later date. Tommy was unable to attend the meeting. D. Trustee/Foundation Event for Employees Employee appreciation event will be held on Jan. 21st or Jan. 28th. Sixtos is happy to welcome us back. Mike will talk to Ray about video. Brad will check with the Foundation to solidify date. VII. Announcements • Overdrive libby new app for overdrive. More user friendly • PLS is developing a new app. Should be ready in a month or so. • Check out the Brooklyn public library website. Our library website will look like that. VIII. Action Item Trustee Rosenthal requested that LifeMoves/homeless issue at the library be placed on the November agenda. IX Adjournment Trustee Nagler moved that the meeting be adjourned at 6:03PM. Roll Call Trustees Present: Mike Nagler, Randi Murray, Lisa Rosenthal, Andy Blanco (Recorder), Kerbey Altmann Staff Present: Brad McCulley, City Librarian Geralyn O'Brian, Tommy McMahon, Kathy Von Mayrhauser, Megan Wong Staff Absent Sidney Poland, Administration Assistant/Recorder II. Library Board of Trustees Minutes The Trustee minutes for the October 171h meeting will be submitted for approval at the January 16, 2018 Trustee meeting. III. From the Floor (Public Comments No one from the public attended. IV. October 2017 Statistics The Trustees reviewed the Circulation statistics. V. Librarians Report • Personnel Updates - Maribeth Farcich, Adult Services Librarian for 30 plus years is retiring the end of December. CHA CHA Tahng is the new Library Aide at the Easton Library. • Passport Update - Andrea San Andreas will be the new Passport Intake Manager. • Significant Programs - The Children's Dept. will hold the Harry Potter Winter Ball January 19th for children and parents. Adult Services Dept. held a "Fun for Flowers" program in the late fall; 60 people attended. VI. Unfinished Business A. Update on Speaker Series The Foundation has arranged to hold a mock set up in the library "reading room" for the event in March. 30 chairs will be delivered on December2lst and the placing of the chairs will take place the morning of December 22nd. The purpose of this exercise is to determine the amount of seating that can be provided for the event B. Employee Recognition Brunch The employee event will be held at Sixtos on January 21St at 10:00 am to 1:00pm. VI. New Business A. Monthly Topic - Strategic Plan The Trustees reviewed a working document tracking each department's initiatives as they correlate to the strategic plan goals. Department managers shared how the strategic plan has brought the broader context of the library's vision into focus as their teams formulate and execute programs. The manager's did not feel that implementing the Strategic Plan goals added additional work load to their positions. B. Homeless Welfare Supplies Brad briefed the Trustees on his current and upcoming engagement with community resources to support the library staff s ability to provide homeless assistance. VII Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:OOPM. M/S/C (Nagler/Altmann) The December meeting has been cancelled due to the Trustees' holiday schedules.
