August 15, 2023
I. Roll Call

II. Agenda Items Approved by Trustees
A. Approval of Collection Development Policy
B. Approval of Technology Lending Progressive Discipline
Guidelines with one edit.
C. Approval of first payment for AMH
III. Library Board of Trustee Minutes
The Trustees unanimously approved the July 19, 2023 Board of
Trustee Minutes. M/S/C / (Ostrow/Cannon).
IV. Correspondence and Information
• On Saturday August 12th, the Library held a public event at
Victoria Park. There were 300 attendees of all ages. The
Children's Dept. had handouts for the children.
• Adult statistics noted that there are 203 registered users for
Pronunciator with Chinese and Italian being the top languages.
• Children's and Teens total program attendance for the fiscal year
is 2,101.
V. Reports
A._City Librarian's Report
Staff Development — The City Librarian, Brad McCulley, noted
that staff development day will no longer be held on Indigenous
Peoples Day as it conflicts with Native American Day. Instead,
September has been the time selected to hold 2 hour sessions that
would provide staff with the opportunity to participate in learning
new skills and topics.
B. Collection Development Policy — Action Item
The City Librarian, Brad McCulley, reviewed the Collection
Development Policy with the Trustees.
Action Item — The Trustees commented that the Collection
Development Policy was a through and comprehensive document
of how the library collection is developed and maintained and
unanimously passed a motion to adopt the policy as written.

C. Technology Lending Progressive Discipline Guidelines
(Action Item)
The policy of lending technology materials applies to all patrons.
If the rules are not followed, the patron can be prohibited from
checking out technology materials.
The Trustees unanimously passed a motion to adopt the
guidelines for Technology Lending Progressive Discipline
with two edits in the second paragraph. M/S/C (Garcia/Lucchesi)
D. Foundation
The date for the ribbon cutting for the Benny Bufano owl is
September 15tn.
VI. Old Business
A. AMH — Action Item
The Trustees unanimously passed a motion to request funds in
The amount of $95,000 from the Silicon Valley Foundation to
make the first payment for the AMH. M/S/C (Garcia/Ostrow)
B. Lane Room Upgrade — Discussion
The City Librarian, Brad McCulley, advised the Trustees that his
goal is to start the Lane Room upgrade in November. Besides
improving the technology equipment, lighting will be enhanced
and new cabinets will be installed.
VII. New Business
The Trustees were introduced to the City's Age Friendly Plan and
were requested by the City Librarian to read through it and offer
any additions or suggestions at the next meeting.
VIII. Future Agenda Items
• Date for September Meet and Greet
• Introduction of New Trustee
• Lions Club Annual Donation of $5,000 for Large Type
IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:OOPM. The next meeting of the
Burlingame Library Trustees will be held on September 19, 2023
5:30 PM in the Library Conference Room.
