Burlingame, Calif., Lay 6, 1935.
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Burlingame
was held on the above Fiven date. The meeting was called to
order at 8:00 P.M., 3Kayor Buck in the Chair. Councilmen Buck,
Handloa, High, Hives and Hunt answered the roll call.
�.. The minutes of the meeting of April 15, 1935, were read and
approved.
A, letter .vas read from J. L. Cooksley, 2607 Easton Drive, wherein
he protested the converting of premises at 2615 Easton Drive from
a single family dwelling to two family dwelling, which he alleged
was contrary to City laws and he desires the same to be abated.
Police Chief Harper who investigated this eo^:plaint, submitted
a written report stating that he interrogated Mrs. R. W. Ryan,
owner;, who informed him that the entire home was leased to
Yr. & !Lrs. Carl F. Smith; that she and her husband tr. Ryan
occupy two rooms in the basement in exchange for the keep of the
garden. City Attorney Davis instructed the Council, that the
violation, if any, Eras purely a technical one and he would
recommend against their taking any action in the premises. The
Clerk was instructed to so advise Mr. Cooksley.
A letter was read from St. Joseph's Military Academy, Belmont,
California, inviting theayor and Council to the observance of
Mother's Day at the Academy on Sunday afternoon May 12, 1935. The
Uayor asked the Counc il.to observe the date and attend if it is
possible for them to do so.
A request from Earl Poedner to erect a mushroom rlant on the
Bay Shore Highway North of Broadway, was granted conditional
that a more elaborate plan is presented than the sketch submitted,
Which Mr. Poedner stated he mould do. -Motion by Councilman High.

Several letters covering information on matters before the
Legislature were referred to the City Attorney to peruse and to
advise the Council his recommendations an the same. A letter
that concerned the Planning Commission was referred to that body
to take the same course.
City Attorney Davis submitted an opinion relative to the question
of the issuance of revenue bonds by the City under the Public
Utility Act which is now before the legislature. Mr. Davis
was of the opinion that such action appeared to him as contrary to
all regulations of bond issues and he would recommend that the
Council do not consider the same favorably. The report was
ordered placed on file.
Better lighting in the 71llborough Subdivision was referred to
the Lighting Committee to look into. Unfinished stretches of
sidewalks in that subdivision on T3euchatel Avenue was referred to
the City Attorney to take up with the property owners insisting
they proceed with this work else the Council will start proceed-
ings to have it done.
Recreational amusement service in Ylashington Park for the coming
summer was discussed and was laid over. In the meantime Park
15'arden Anderson is to submit a list of proposed activities after
conferring with the dif-'erent organizations interested in
recreation.
No protests being heard as to the elimination of weeds in sidewalk
areas, a resolution ordering the eradication of the same was
offered by Councilman Hunt and seconded by Councilman Handlos,-
Carried, all voting AYE.
A Resolution regulating license to War Veterans residing in
the City of Burlingame embodying the several requirements covering
free license, and having the OK of the Committee in charge, was
offered by Counoilman High and was seconded by Councilman Handlos,-
Carried, all voting AYE.

A Resolution directing the City Attorney to take action before
the Hoard of Supervisors of San Mateo County relative to the
creation of a sewer district in the unincorporated territory of
Burlingame Hills and Burlinghome where the same adjoins the
City of Burlingame on its Northwest boundarylins, was offered
by Councilman High and was seconded by Councilman Hunt, -
Carried, all voting AYE.
Ordinance No. 283 amending Section 7 of Ordinance No. 227 by
adding a new sub section thereby known as sub section 4, coveri
ing the lines and contours of buildings in the residential
areas, was driven its first reading, -Introduction by Counoilman
Hunt.
City Attorney Davis was asked to look into the practicability
of weeding out a lot of ordinances novo out of date and the
bailing down of others with the view of codifying the same.
The question of the collection of a franchise by the City from
public service organizations was discussed. Attorney Davis
advised the Council that nothing can be done at this time
looking toward that end - cited the case of Los Angeles versus
los Angeles Gas & Ele ctria Company, which case is before the
Courts at this time. Mr. Davis vias asked to look into the
matter further.
Henry Middendorff, 1114 Bayawater Avenue, requested action
on the part of the Council in the elimination of loud noises
from Hoover Hall at certain intervals and was referred to
City Judge St to swear to a complaint against the owner
of the buildi Were such noise emanates.
The reportsof the ';inter department, the Police department,
and the City Judge, for the Lionth of April, -:fere read and
were ordered placed on fide.
The Council thereupon adjourned.
