ofPubLlc Wo:rks, recoumendlng that the reslgnatlon tendered by
Frank Ilupps, groundsraan ln the Pank pepartment, be acceptod.. 0n

A letter dated July 5, 1949r.was read from K. S. Fitchr Director
of Publlc Works, requesting authortzation to employ a Senior
Clenk-Stenographer temporarlly fon a pon{od of approxlmately two
weel.s. QuestLoned by the Council, Mr. Fitch submitted the name
of litns. Mlldred Caras for temporary appointment. Council:nan
Slmonds the::eupon moved that autho::l zati on be given and that
Mrs. Carns be appointed for a perlod of two woeks, seconded by
Councilman Dah1, and unanimously carried.
A lotter dated June 25, !949, was read from the Burlingame Publ-lc
LlbrarT Boar.d, requesting tho appolntment of Geo:rge Paul Lechlch
to the Llbrary staff as temporarXr SenLor Librarian for a ninety
day perlod beglnnlng July 1, 1949. Councllman Simonds moved that
Mr. Lechich be appolnted as requested, seconded by C6u1g11ms.

Board requestlng that a civll servLce 11st be established for

Cormrlsslon be instructed to hold an exardndtlon to create an

Councilman Atwaten and unanlmousLy carried.
A letter dated July 14, 1949, was read from R. C. Theuor, Chlef
of PolLce notlfylng the Council that Uil1llam Petree has asked a
waiver of appolntment to the Po1lce Depa:rtment, at this tlme and
::eque sting that another appolntee be named to fill a vacancy

e11glblo on the J-Ist, Clarence Ferreira be appointed as patrol-
man ln the Bunllngame Police Department, seconded by Councilrnan
Hunt and unanlmous 1y carried.

A letter dated. July 15, 1949, was read., from K. g. Fitch, Dlrector
of Publlc Works, transmitting a Highway Malntenance Agreement fon
the 1949-1950 flscal year, and. Lnforming tho CotrrciJ- that the
Agreement 1s slmilar ln fonm to the one in effect duri-ng the flscal
year l94B-49, wlth the prlncipal d.ifferenees noted as follows:

A letter dated Jul.y 5, 1949, was read from the Standard 011 Company
of Callfornla, requesting permisslsn to install one additional 2,OOO

E} Camlno BeaI and Burllngame Avenue. A letter was also read from
Flre Chlef Ed. J. Leis, recommending that permission for the above
be granted. 0n motion of Councitrman Slmonds, seconded by Councllman
Hunt and. unanlmously carried, the request vras granted. Questloned by
the Councll Building Inspector Watson advised that although there 1s
no provision in the Ordlnance authorizlng hls offlce to lssue permlts
to lnstalI r":ndergror:nd Storage tanks, there ls an agreement l-n force
whereby a building permit w111 be lssued in order that the Assessol3
may recelve a record of lt.
A letter d.ated July 15, 1949, was read from the American-LaFrance
Foamite Corporation, requosting an extensj-on of Agreement to provlde
the City of Burllngame with the Aeria1 Ladder, from September 15,
1949 to December 15, 1,949. Questloned by the Council, Flr"e Commlsslon
Chaj-:man, Earl Scfunldt, advised that the extenslon met with the
approval-of the Commlssion. The Council thereupon requested that a
letter expresslng this approval be submitted" to the Council.
Councilman Simonds moved that the Coirncil approve the extenslon of
time and that the C5.ty'Attorney be lnstnucted to write a letten in
reply in ord.er to protect the eontract the City now las wlth the
anbrican La-France Foam'ite Coqporation, seconded by Councilman llunt
and unanimously carried.

Councllman Simonds lntroduceil and moved the adoptlon of Resoluti,on
49-49 approvlng the speclficatlons drawn by the Clty Engineer and
the plans as subml-tted for the lmprovement s of Ray Pa::k and
Burllngame Vl11age, and that the Clty Clerk be authorized to give
notlce and invlte sealed p::oposals for the completlon of the work,
seconded by Councllman Hunt and adopted by the txranlmous afflr-
native vote of the Councll.

City Attorney Karmel also advlsed that he had been ln comnrmi -

fomed that they had secu::ed legal counsel. Following furthe::
dlscussion, Cowrcllman Simonds moved that the architect be ln
attendance at the ptioposed meetlng of the Flre ConmLsslon and
the residents of Burllngame Hl1Is and p5.ctures be shown of the
future fire house, the tentative elevation, etc., secondod by
Councilman Dah]- aird unanimously carrled. K. S. Fitch Cltyllnglneer, advlsed that a set-back of twenty-flve feet would
confonn to the San Mateo County Planling Cormlsslon restrlctlons.

Mayor Love stated that he was in recelpt of complaints of flres
