The mlnutes of the previous meeting of June 20, 1949, as submitted
to members of the Councll and as postod on the BulLetin Board in
the Clty HaIl v/ere approved on motion of 0ouncilman Dahlr s€cond.ed
by Couneilman Hunt, and unanimously carrled.
A letter dated July 1, 1949, was read from K. S. Fltch, Director
of Publlc liforks, subraittlng proposed alterations at 260 Primrose
Road, for the use of the Bulldlng Inspector, City Engineer and
Purchasing Agent, and requesting authorj-zatlon to proceed. with the,r,rork. Mayor Love stated that ttie City Engineer has been inst::ucted
to proceed wlth certaln interj-or v,rork, exceptlng the installatlon
of shovrer facllities, and funther to furnish the Cor:neilr for its
eonsent and approvalrran estimate of cost for exterlor painting and
heating.
A letter dated July 2, r.949r was read from K. S. Fitch, Director
of Publle "orks, advlsing the Council of the necesslty of lnstaIl-
lng a water system ln the upper leveIs of Ray Park Subdivision and
recomrflending that his offlce be authorized to file a bid for the
purchase of a Pressure Tank, Pump and Equlpment offered for sale
by the Town of H1llsborough. Councilman Slmonds moved that the
Councll concur ln the recommendation of the City Engineer and thelrater Commission and that authorization be given on the submisslon
of a bid for the purchase.of Pressure SystemEquipment to the Town
of Hillsborough, seconcled by Councilman Hunt, and unanimously
carrled.
A letter dated JuLy 2, 1949, vrars read from K. S. Fltch, Director
of Public Lirorks, transmltting a letter of resignation from Vfayne
Morrow, Serviceman in the W&ter Department, effective as of June
!7, 1949. Councilman Simonds moved that the reslgnatlon be ac-
cepted, seconded by Councllman Eunt, and unanj.mously carrled.
A letter d.ated July 1, 1949, was read fro* Ii. C. Theuer, Chlef of
Police, reportlng further on a survey made of traffic conditj-onsat the intersectlon of Ralston and Pepper Avenuss, and recommend-
lng that the above lntersection be made a four-rvay stop. It was
further recomaended that the ordinance be amended to create an
arterlal- stop on Pepper Avenue, northbound. Council-man Dahl moved
that the Councll concur ln the reco$ucendations as outllned by
Chief Theuert s cornmunication, seconded by Couneilman Hunt, and
unanlmously carnied.
A letter dated July 1, 3g4g, was read from R. C. Theuer, Chlef of
Police, advislng that Officer Carl Schwahn, injured in J.lne of
duty unden date o3 April 4, 1949, is still under raedleal eare and
ls not available for active duty. Chief Theuer was thanked for
his cournunication and the City ulerk requested to place the letter
on file.
A letter dated July 1, 1949r w&s read from City Clerk, Ilerbert K.lvhlte, advislng the Oouncil of Mlss Lillian Grm.senmeyerts reslgna-tlon, and requesting authorlzation be glven to employ temporar1rhelp to fill the vacancy untll an eligible list is available.
Councilman Dahl moved that the reslgnation be acceptedr s€conded by
Councllman Hr.rrt, and unanj-mously carried. Counciknan Slmonds moved
that the Ctty Clenk be authorized to employ tenporary help until
such time as an ellgibIe list is created, provi.ded the period doesnot exceed nlnety days and further that at the expiration of tlratperiod, Clvil Service Rulee and Regulatlons be complied v,rith. The
motlon vras seeonded by Cor:ncilman Hunt, and unanimbusly camied.

A letter dated July 1, 1949r w&s read from Edward S. Goetze, Chair-man, Burlingame Reereation Commission, submlttirrg amended plans andspeciflcatlons in connectj-on with the proposed playground at rey
Park and requesting that bids be caIled for as soon as possible.
There being no objection from membens of the Council, the subject

vlew and report to the Council at the next regulat meeting of theCouncil,

A letten dated June 28, 1-949r was read from the Anima1 ProtectlveAssociation requesting that plans for a building to house and pro-tect unwanted animals be studied and formulated.. Mayor Love stated.that for the first time the councj-1 plans to hold puutie budgethearings and at the appropriate tlme the vrriter of- the above com-municatlon ryay attend the hearings and place proposed plans beforethe Bud.get Commlttee. The City Clerk was instructed to so advlsethe Anlma1 Protective Association and the newspapers requested. tonotlfy the citizens when sueh proposed meeti-ngs are sched.uled.

Sayol Love announced that the pr.oposed Agreement between the City ofBurlingame and the City and County of San Franelscor regardlng dis-posltion of the abandoned railway line upon Ca}lfornia Drive, hasbeen temporarily tabled, untll a dlscussion is held rvith othercitles confronted vrlth a ]-lke situation.
Under the hearing of Unfinished Businessr K. S. Fitch, llirector ofPubl1c llorks, wai authorlzed. to appoint temporary draitsmen for aperiod not to exceed ninety days. meetlng was brought to the attention of the Clty Council and on a

the explanation that the new Agreeroent vrlth the Scavenger Company
ivould lnclude refuse pl ck-Sp sorvice to tho tlay Park Subdlvlslon.Mr. Fltch advlsed that the r€ surfacl ng of Peninsula Avonue from El
CamLno Real to Humboldt Road, of which Gas Tax Funds allocated tothe City of Burllngame are aval1ab1e, would commence by the 15th ofJuly and completed within slxty days.
