I/iond.ay, Il'lay 15, 1950, in the Council Chambers of the City Ha11, was *uhe tfuae and place set fon a hearlng on a petltlon for a variance of zorl:e affecting property known as portion of Lot L, "l5t frontage on Oak Grove Avenue, Corbitt Subdlvlslon, designated.as 1O0O Oak Grove Avenue. The Clty Clerk read a letter dated. May 5, 1950, fnom the Planning Comrslsslon advlsing that after due conslderatlon, the Comrdssion recolnmended the gnantlng of a - variance from rsecond resldentialr' to limited retail use of the . Lang and l'lliI}ar properties occupylng tbe block on the northerly . side of Oak Grova Avenue extending from the rallroad right-of- vray -to J,lnden Avenue. A letter vras also nead from Frank S. Contl,Developer, stating that lf permission were granted, .the present - strnrcture would. be irmredLately removed at no expense to the eity^.Following conslderable dj-scussion as to the City t s positlonln the granting of the variance, the following limitations as tothe use of -the property were established: that the said property be used only for the se11lng of grocenies; drugs; bakery goodsl meats; operating of a fountain; dry cleanlng establishment; and. businesses of a slmilar natune. Counellman Slmond.s thereupon moved that the Council eoncur ln the reeommenda'uion oi' uhoPlanning Commi-ssi.on and introduced. and moved the passage of Resolution No. 15-50, rrGranting a Varlance in the Use of the Propenty Known as Lot 1, Corbitt Subdivlslon, from SecondResidentlal to llmlted ComrnercLal. The motion was seconded by Counellman Atwaten and following noilrl call; Resolution I{o. 15-50 was unanlmously adopted by affirrr.ative vote of the CouncLl. ^ A letter dated lfi,ay 4, 1950, was read. from the Burli-ngame City Planning Conmlssion advising that following a study of a report submitted by- the Dlrector of Public Works and the Park Supen- lntend.ent concernlng traffic hazards on EI Camlno Real r:esulting from tree and shrubbery obstructions, a three to two vote of the Comrission recommended the removal of the large tree at thesoutheasterly cornen of Chapin Avenue and El Camino Rea1. Councilman Atwater moved that the Councll concur ln the majorityvote of the Commlssion and that the Councll again re-state 1tspollcy that all trees--not considered. a t::affic hazard--sha1l be maintaj-ned along EI Camino Rea1, and that the renroval of the above treo ln question shall not constltute a precedent. The motion was seeonded by Councilqan Hunt. Before voting on themotlon, Mr. D. A. Stivers and ii[r.. A. E. Van Bolt, properfir' owners, both entered" their protests on the removal of the treesalong EI Camino Real, followlng vrhlch the motion vuas unanlmously caryied. A letter dated. April 28, 1950, was rea<1 from the Burlingame Advance advtsing of the contemplated publlshlng of the offielal San l{ateo County Fiesta Edition and requesting that the Counclladvise as to i$s plans fon the Edition. Councilman Simonds moved that the subJect- be referred to Ivlayor Love to confer lviththe Chamber of Commer?ce, the paid advertj-sing agent of the Clty, seeonded by Councilnan Hunt and unanlmously car"ri-ed. A letter dated May 12, 1950, was read from the Ray Park Improve- ment Club, requesting that repalrs be made at the lntersection of Mareo Polo Vfay and McDona1d'u/ay1 at the north sicle of Ray Drive. The conrnurricatlon was neferced to the Clty Engineer" for investl-gation and cornectlon. 168 A petition, signed by six resldents of the 1600 block of ForestView Avenue, dated April 20, 1950, was read requesting that imne-dtate aetion be taken to re&ove certain lar"ge tr"ees located onForest Viery which have beeome a menace to Ilfe and property. Thepetltj.on was referced. to the Park $uperintendent and the Clty Engl-neer for investigatlon and the City C1erk was instructed to eommuuni-cate wlth the petitLoners advising that an investigation rq/iII be made and that they wlII be notlfied later as to the result of suchinvestlgation.
