Councilman Byrd commented bniefty on tLre 1959-1"50 budget, statingthat the Coulcil may find it diffictlt to grant wage increases
and to continue to pnovide adequate city services the next fiscalpenlod if the current tax basis is maintained.
Councilman Byrd su6qgested that the City l'lanager submit a detailed
repont on the subJeet of a sales tax; lneludlng, the revenue to be
der.lved, how it may be administe?ed, the penality if nay impose
upon the cLtizens of Burlingame if adopted by the County, the benefitthe City may receive lf adopted prior to the adoption bir the County,

Couacilman Thayer stated that San l'lateo lounty is the only County
in the State of California to date th:t has not e stablished a salestax. Councilman Thayer noted that the League of Ca-llfornia Cities
