The Chalr announced that thls was the t lme and place scheduled ac-
cordin3 to legal procedure to conduct a hearing on the appllcation
of Dux, Inc., through the QRS l,Ieon Company, for a variance from theprovisions of the sign ordLnance to permit the orection of a thlrty-
two foot pole sign. Tho twelve foot extension fr.om that provided Lnthe Slgn Ordlnance was recuosted to permlt vlslbll-ity above t i1e trees.
There being no pr.otests recelved, either verbally or ln wrlting,
Councllman Rooth moved that the varlance be granted, seconded by
Councilman Morgan and unanimously camled.

the archltectural deslqn of Hyatt House requl"res the erectlon of a
slightly larger sl;rr than that orlqlnally granted by permit, 0ctober
6, 1958 and it was re co nnrended that the nequest for the change be
appr oved .
Councilman BJrrd nnoved that the Council con.lur, seconded by Councilman
Morgan ard the motlon trlereafter declared carrled, with Councllman

2. UNIFORLII DOG LICENSE FXtsS
A communlcation from the City Manager, dated Aprll 50, 1959, advised
that the Peninsula Hurnane SocLety has re com,nended a unlform dog
l-icense fee of $3.OO for both rnale s and females and 1t was the recom-
rrendatlon of the Llcense Coll-ector and the City itlanager I s Office that

car. There belng no ooJections, the Councll concurred wlth the
recomnsndation of the Clty Manager that the clalm be rejected andreferned to the Cltyts insurance carrler.
5. PORTOLA HOTEL, 317 LORTON AVENIIE , DI]CIARED UNSAFE
A communlcation from the Clty hianager, dated May 1, 1959, advlsed
that Offlcial NotLce had been ,Ilven by the Bulldine Olflclal to
Edward M. Thomas and A1lce f. Thomas, owners of the building at
317 Lorton Avenue known 4s the Portola Hotel , to ?estore the bulldlngto a safe condltion or to demollsh the structure lf repairs are not
pos sib1e.
The report advlsed further that lt was the recomrend,atlon of theBulli.lng Inspector, the Flre Department, the County Health Departrnent
and the Offlce of the Clty ltlanager that official action be taken toprosecuto the owners as vlolators of ttre p ovisions of tire Bulldlng
Code and to thereafter ord.er the Buildlng Offlcial to proceod wlththe work speclfled in hls notlce.
At the request of the Clty Attorney, a moti-on lntroduced by Councll-
man Bfrd, authorized the offlce of the Clty Attorney to inltlate
appoprl ate civil actl on against tl]e oyiners of the buildlng. The
motLon was seconded by Councllman Rootn and ulanlmously carrled.

the sewer easement at the price quoted.
The City Manager further advlsed that trle company is not receptLve

The Clty Enclneer repl-led to the lnquiry by advlslng that the easenEntln questlon has been the subJect of dlscusslon for a conslder-ableperlod of tlme; however, the two bear no relatlon to each other.
The Clty Enzlneer further advised that the purchase of the easement
