Mayor Byrd advlsed that the meetlng had been sche duled to recel-ve
the bltt fr.om Stevenson-Pacl flc, Inc., for the constructlon of a
basement 1n the new Pollce Headquartars on Howard. Avenue.
Rlchand Zahm, Archltect, advlsed that the Contractor, unable to
be 1n attendance at thLs hour, has lndLcated a btd for th6 con-stt'uctlon of the basement in the sum of $121190.00 (plus or: mlnus. )
Refernlng to four polnts to be stlpulated by the Contractor wlth
the submlsslon of the basoment constructlon bld, as nequested by
Councllman l4artln at the reguLar meetlng, October 2, Archltect
Zahm advlsed that lf constr:ucted, the basement w111 lnclude (1)
a net usable area of 911 squano feet; (2) a net area of 10lr squarefeet for a park!,ng rrter malntenance room; (J) two dlvlded areas,
one for the stonage of large artlcles (rtgs, furnlture, etc.) andthe second for the storage of srnall-slzed artlcles; end (h) tne
bas6rpnt w111 not lnclude C1vl1 Defense 'rfallouttt equlpment.
In reply to Councll lnquirles, Chlef of Pol1ce Lo11ln aitvlsed that
the basement would be used for the storage of lost and foundartlcles end to retaln ttdeadtt records fon a perloci of yeans as
requlred by statutes. Chlef Lo1lln rec orwnended the constrrrctionof a baserrent to provlde a stor:age facl1lty and to a1low forfutur:e expanslon.
Some dlscussLon arose on the subJect of the bulldlng plans Lnrelatlon to future expansion.
Archltect Wandnayer advised that the second floor has been
tlesigned to permlt furthe:: expanslon; howevor, expansLon of theflrsi floo:r arsa would be less d.eslrable because of the location'of the parklng faclllty. The archltect continued, statlng that
on that basls, the constructlon of a basement to provlde future
expansion 1f needed., was consldered a desirablo p1an.

Attorney advlsed that Councll nay adopt the flgu:re quoted asa rrce11lng'r prlce and a sLmple rptlon authorlzlng a change ondenfor the addltlon of a basement would be sufflclent.

The Clty Manager lndlcated hls approval to the constructlon of a
basement, statlng that 1n hls opinlon, the lmprovement could ba
consldered ln terms of a rllong-range investment.tl
Followlng further discusslon and actlng on the noconnnendatlon of
CouncLlman Martln that the rrcellingrr for sald constructlon of a
basement be establlshed at a prlce not to exceed. $12r500.0O,Councllman Lorenz moved that the btd for the constnrctlon of a
baserrcnt be accepted ln an amount not to exceed. $121500.00(pr.eferably the quoted prlce of $Lzr19O.0O) and thet an onder
for. the additlon of sald basemsnt In the general contnact bldbe authorized.
