Brad gave the Trustees an overview of how the library is planning to re-open in accordance with Coronavirus safety standards and provide and maintain the social distancing requirement. Some examples follow. 2 • Plexiglas sneeze guards and clear vinyl areas will be installed in staff areas and at public desks. • Some of the seating will be removed and the remaining chairs, stools etc. will be rearranged to meet the 6 feet between people requirement. • Study carrel chairs with cloth upholstery seats have been removed. Seats will be recovered and returned for library usage when social distancing is not longer an issue. • The re-opening staff is discussing ways to manage residents returning to the library such as number of people allowed in the building at one time and will there be a designated time frame for them to select the materials they want. 2. Hourly Staffing Brad advised the Trustees that hourly staff will not be able to return to service in the library until all of the full time staff have returned to work and there is a significant need for their presence . B. Foundation Report The On-line book sale is now operating with two Foundation members who come every Tuesday from 8:00-10:00pm and process orders. Members are discussing possible options to raise money for the library. VII. New Business A. Black Lives Matters Statement of Support - Action Item Trustee Nagler and Elisabeth Ostrow wrote a statement in support of "Black Lives Matter". The City of Burlingame and the Burlingame City Council made supporting statements on this issue and Trustee Nagler felt that the Trustees needed to make their own statement. • The Trustees discussed ideas of the best way to initiate and implement an action plan in support of this issue. • Brad noted that the library has an Equity Committee chaired by Megan Wong. It was suggested that Megan and Brad put together a list of ideas that could become part of an equity action plan. • Trustees inquired into whether they could work on a google document together. Brad will check with Kathleen Kane, our City Attorney, to determine if this would be a violation of the Brown Act. • The Trustees felt that it was important to send out the statement as soon as possible rather then wait for an action list. • Trustee Motion The Trustees moved to approve the statement written by Trustee Nagler and Trustee Ostrow with a modified comment that a plan of action in support of Black Lives Matter will be worked on to be placed on the library website, as well as social media.
