III. January Statistics Highlights
It was noted that the Tech Lab statistics increased from 1,000 in
January 2016 to 2,500 in 2019 and then fell to 1,500 in 2020. The
reason for this sharp increase followed by a major decrease is that there
was a change in the way Tech Lab statistics were tallied.

VII. New Business
A. Library Director Priorities for 2020
The City Librarian's main concerns and focus for 2020 will be in the
following areas.
• Census - Direct attention to the role the library staff will
play in helping its patrons understand the census and
provide the necessary information for them to comply with
census instructions.
• Staff Training - In order to cope with the increase of
homeless patrons and those patrons suffering different
stages of mental illness, training will be provided to give
staff the tools to be effective in dealing with these issues.
• Equity - The library Racial Equity Committee was instituted to
take a look at equity issues within the library staff. The
purpose is to make sure that all staff members are treated
equally in a fair manner. Progress has been made by
starting new programs and policies in hiring practices. Also
the City has implemented the policy of giving tuition
reimbursement to hourly staff as well as opening up
professional development courses to them.
